Steering Box third times the charm?

Hello Everyone,

I have a couple issues.

I recently had a pitman shaft seal leak. I thought "Ok cool, i'll rebuild/replace everything under there"

So I purchased all new steering linkage "pro-forged" stuff. And a refurb steering box from RockAuto.

So I Yank everything out and replace. The steering gear leaked from the steering shaft flange! So I send it back to rock auto and got another one. AcDelco Refurb.

We (my nephew and I) slap it in and it doesn't leak! Cool! But the car wanders and fights me all over the lane. So I tell myself "Let me get it aligned and we'll see", since I replaced tie-rods and all that.

I got it aligned today and it still does the same thing! I'm so frustrated. Its like the steering wheel fights me. Then gets real easy, then real hard again. Its hard initiating movement...then gets very easy once I give it a little. So the act of following the lines of the road gets pretty "Herky-Jerky".

If I keep my hand at 12 o'clock, top center of the steering wheel, its pretty stiff to move, until I get past either 11 o'clock or 1 o'clock, then the car turns very easily and more normal. Then once I've turned enough and want to straighten the car, it struggles again until I force it, then BAM! it gets easy again.

I regret changing so much stuff at once. But I feel pretty confident its the steering box. Its the acdelco police box from rockauto. Correct lock to lock ratio and all that. The power steering pump worked fine before I did this.

I replaced all linkage with the pro-forged kit. Replaced the power steering lines too and from. Bled the hell out of it. No bubbles or air in it. Everything torques to spec and aligned.

I'm currently waiting on Lee to get back to me on rebuilding my ORIGINAL box.

In the mean time I was looking at this Flaming River FR1560 : Power Steering Box GM/Dodge/Jeep | JEGS flaming river box just for kicks. It's really the only box I could find that's reputable and in stock. Turn-one, borgeson/delphi, all fricken say out of stock!

Whats the difference between 800, 700, 670, or 600 series box??? anyhoo. ...
Does what I described above sound like my steering box?? ugh

Any thoughts, info, or experience would be appreciated. Car specs are in my sig.

Thanks in advance,

Rob.

These symptoms sound exactly what I experienced last time I had a steering box replaced and they slopped PS fluid onto the belt. Spray both sides of the belt and the pulleys thoroughly with brakeclean and see if your problem goes away.
