Trailer hitch ($154.95) that fits 96 Caprice will fit 96 Impala right?

Etrailer.com is selling a Class II trailer hitch for the 96 Caprice for $154.95 shipped. They do not have fitment data for 96 Impala, but will confirm it fits 96 Caprice.

Hitch is a Curt C12009

Anyone fit one of these or a similar one? Any issues with the dual exhaust? I'm being careful here because money is tight and shipping this sucker back would be cost prohibitive.

If you have time: any general thoughts on Class II hitches on our car? This is for a small trailer to haul around dirt/street motos, max total load 900 lbs, single axle trailer empty weight 400lbs.

Thanks

Thanks, will do, looks as if all of those kits specifically state they are for the wagon, wondering whether the rear frame/bumper on the wagon is the same...

I've run a Class II Hidden Hitch on my FWB for 15 years. Thoughts on it are it's perfect for my needs with 300# tongue and 3,500# gross. The little trapazoid plastic cover hid it pretty well. I never had reason to haul anything 6,000# with the car to warrant a Class III. Sounds like you've done researching, but I think there's been a good deal of consolidation/Part No. changes and general shuffling of brands Reese-Hidden Hitch etc.. And definitely options dying for our aging tub.

An Impala SS is just a Caprice with different trim options. And you know to keep lotsa wt. on the tongue to keep from whiplashing. Those are always fun to watch - from well behind.

\'96SS SOB: SSRI, Herter Tune, Tri-Y II, , 3000 Edge, F/HO bars, METCO extendeds with CV MMC, Bilsteins, currently Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta (315/35 rear). Finally, wait for it... LT-4 knock module!
\'96FWB BUW-Butt Ugly White: PCMPerformance tune, HDFA w/ swissed filter, 1/2 SLP s.s. catback with H- and Flow Super 50s, oem opti rebuilt 3 times, SS Bars, METCO LCA, Airlift 1000, Monroe SS, PowerTrax No-Slip, CTS wheels with +1 rubber. Finally, yes again... LT-4 knock module!

Thanks boss, I'm going to give it a try along with some stiffer rear springs.

I appreciate all the feedback from both you and 94MSP9C1

Hitch Fitment

Just some general suggestions for buying a hitch system.

The more generic a hitch is the more custom work will be required to make it fit. If it fits 91-96 B body Caprice it should be easy.

If it lists older cars as well you will working through a product with extra holes for other uses. Off topic some truck hitches are made to fit "the big three" over many years. These hitches may require frame drilling but you do not find out until you get the instructions out of the box.

If you have dual exhaust you should plan/budget for possible exhaust work. Few Caprices were dual and your car may not have stock exhaust parts. This may be why they list it for Caprice but not Impala. Another clue is when it say "not for police" or "not for SEO" My class II/III hitch is close to my aftermarket exhaust.

If you can, buy it locally so returns or missing parts do not become a problem.

OK

OK Found this:

As mentioned, nothing shows but the little tube close to the bumper, and most assuredly available only used by now: This setup is going back on my new FWB soon.

I've been in contact with him recently and he had a setback that prevented him from getting the cad drawings to the cutter.

I'm in line for two.

Garage
another option, if you have a hitch shop in your area, is have a custom one made. Eckharts is the place in my area. I know of a few classic cars that had them so they can tow their classic tear drop trailers or uhauls for the Power Tour and they are as tucked away as they can be for the cars they are on.

Off the shelf ones I see for the 94-96 B-body are either sedan or wagon....but sedan does not list "Impala"...only Caprice.
