IIRC some Caprice models came with 5/8" ball joints vs 9/16" so the control arm is specific to the 5/8" size in that the mounting hole is slightly larger for the larger ball joint.....if that is the discrepancy with your car. I believe this "special order" arm was for "police package" and cabs

did the alignment shop offer any reason the control arm you have is not the right one??

9C1 front end components (Control arms & Spindles, W/5/8 ball joints) are as rare as hen's teeth these days.

Your best bet may to

1. Contact Bill Harper / Navy Lifer here and ask about his inventory
2. Post a wanted thread in the BUY/SALE section
3. As well as visiting some local yards.

No. They just told me that it wasnít the right one so they called around and couldnít find anything, they even called the dealer and they said they couldnít pull up anything because of it being the police package.
And I know the people at the shop real good so I know they wouldnít lie about it and try to get over me lol
Iím hoping you guys can help me find the arm or point me in the right direction.

.
If your car had the "police package" than it has 5/8" balljoint. Also the spindle is different and your front calipers hold a thicker pad than regular B-body

I believe the control arm itself is the same, just the hole for the ball joint on police package is bigger.

Ask the alignment shop what "specifically" they see different

Bill Harper aka Navy Lifer could shed light on this, PM him

Did they happen to mention why "it was the wrong control arm for the car"? Most have touched on the key points here but you have not really given us any details about what exactly is wrong/different or even which arm....Upper or Lower arm?

I did the 5/8" Ball Joint conversion on my 95 Stock Caprice years ago and have a thread on the process. But the Upper COntol arms are the same on all cars. The difference is that somewhere around the mid-95 Run GM decided to upgrade the 9C1 Cars to a 5/8" lower Balljoint. This REQUIRES that both the Stock 9/16" Lower Control arm and the Spindle/Steering Knuckle be replaced with units that support the 5/8" balljoint. Some of the 9C1 cars and wagongs have the JA8? brake package which uses different Calipers and pads but this setup would work on either Control arm combo.

So if you are talking the Lower control arm, are they having issues replacing the Lower BallJoint? Could be the arm is correct but they are using the wrong BJ to fit the arm in question. As for replacement options, as someone mentioned....Bill (Navylifer) will modify a Stock replacement 9/16" lower arm to accept the 5/8" balljoint. Also look up information on the Astro Van as these arms are know to be used where a 5/8" lower arm is required. There is a few threads here with info but check with your shop to see if they can provide more important details as to the issue and why your arm is wrong or needs replaced.

EDIT - Here u go...sorry the pics have not been updated...thx Photobucket!!

https://www.impalassforum.com/vBullet...ps-part-s.html

this may help explain what I described above. I do have a 96 9C1 I'm parting with these arms and spindles. Just not sure I want to sell them as I may just keep for spares. But look into the Astro Arms I mentioned as they are available aftermarket....(Moog?)

================================================== =============

'95 Caprice SS conversion - Bonny Buckets - 96 Column, Shifter and Console - 3.73 Gear and Herter tune - Z/28 Cluster - Blazer OH Console - Green/Pink bushings - Chromed Impala Wheels - Eibach Springs and Bilstein Shocks - Corvette Engine Dress - the list goes on and still more to do...it never ends.

Difficult issue if you want to maintain the car in stock profile. The 5/8" spindle and CA combo is, as mentioned, very rare. Even worse is that "x" percentage of CA's you'll find, while being the proper part, are also compromised by time & wear.

If you don't mind "downgrading" to the same size as 94-95 9C1/6/1A2(?) and all other B bodies (RM, Impalla, B4U, CC), you could have both sides replaced with the 9/16" build. Unless you're tearing through corners or auto-x'ing, they'll be more than up to the job. And you can find plenty of stock of those in new or very good condition. Your shop guys might find that to be the best alternative for you.
