Tubular controls arms (front)

Does anyone have experience with swapping oem front control arms for 70-81 Camaro tubular control arms? Supposed to be an exact fit and more affordable.

I have no experience with them but for the B-Body a set runs about $840

I haven't heard that one but I do have that year Camaro front sway bar on my Impala.

As long as you don't have the 5/8" ball joint knuckles, they'll bolt right in. I've got the SPC F-body lowers in my car, and uppers for that matter.

Is that 5/8" measured at the small end of the taper (threaded end)?

1996 White 9C1 - Destined to be majorly modified

Yes, the threaded end of the Balljoint is 5/8" vs the Stock which is 9/16". The other major difference in a 5/8" Balljoint is the Base of the BJ that gets pressed into the Lower Control Arm is also slightly larger.

The 5/8" BJ "setup" requires a different Spindle for the threaded end and a different Control Arm for the BJ to be pressed into. This setup was only available on late 95-96 9C1 cars.

I added this setup years ago so be sure of your setup as these Tubular arms may only be available for 9/16" BJ's. If you have no history on your car, be sure these will fit Hate to see you go "Tubular" and have it all tore apart and realize..."Damn!!" I think some companies offered a 5/8" tobular lower arm but not sure.

EDIT - I can't believe how long ago it was Bill put this thread out there....5 Years ago. Anyway, there is good info there and it looks like Speed tech offers both versions of Control Arms. I updated that thread with a new link to their site...

Received CPP control arms for 81 Camaro. These SHOULD bolt right in. Compared Ball joint. OEM crown nuts are interchangeable. The 5/8 ball joints are limited to 95-96 RPO 9C1/9C3 police and 9C6 taxi options. I have a 96 Impala. Wish me luck! Will post update after the holiday.

Also, what does this mean: This upper control arm for 1970-1981 Camaro is designed to be used with the stock mount. Available in 8", 8-1/4", 8-1/2", 8-3/4", 9", 9-1/4", 9-1/2". This control arm requires the use of a K6024-style ball joint, which is equivalent a 1963-71 Chevy pickup style upper ball joint. It will have a 7 degree tapered stud and therefore, the stock Camaro spindle must be reamed to fit the pickup ball joint.

Will these arms require any modification to install on a b-body? Ball joints, spindle, etc.?

You don't want that for a street car. It's basically a disposable control arm for circle track and similar racing, available in those lengths for suspension tuning, and like the description says, you have to ream the top end spindle taper to use the designed-for ball joint. (Stock UBJ is K5208)

I am wrapping up the install on my CPP Tubular control arms and want to send an update. Let me start by saying I needed to replace the idler arm and some tie rod ends so I bought the 10 or 12 piece HD steering kit as well as the tubular control arms. Controls arms are the same for 80-96 Impala & Caprice, 70-81 Camaro. I only had to use the UBJ from the rebuild kit (simple swap). Other than that the control arms bolted right in. Not quite done yet,, I had to rent a different spring compresser, but will send final pics tomorrow when it’s all buttoned up.
