Question

Okay, so I bought an fbody sway bar off ebay, it was bead blasted, looks nice, definitely fat. Then, I bought another fbody bar, which I was planning on selling to recoup costs. Got around to looking at them just now, and they're not the same, just by eyeball. So then, cause I don't have a micrometer, I take a piece of string, and do a little highschool math. Circumference = pi*diam, so.. diam = c/pi.
Weird thing is, as near as I can tell, the big one is 1.3" in diam, and the other is 1.2", and this is after many trial and errors. Was there any variation in bars in these models? The little one off ebay and the big one . Any ideas? The little one appears to not be from a Z28, should I bring this up with the seller and try to get my money back?
Thanks for the help!

They varied, some were 1 1/4" in diameter and some were smaller. I have one here from a 79 Trans Am and it's 1 1/4" . Some F-body cars had 7/8" front bars. It would all depend on what level of performance the car was. So you probably got an F-body bar, just not the one you were looking for.

Here's a little piece of information for you. The front sway bar from any 64-77 GM mid size car will bolt to any 70-81 Camaro or Firebird.
So if you feel like crawling around wrecking yards with a Vernier Caliper, you may come up with a bargain better than ebay.

I know that the f body bar we look for as b-body owners is from what I believe was called the ?ws-6? suspension, regardless, it was from the sport package cars like the Z28, so that is specifically what I was looking for. I also would love to go crawling around junkyards, it's just that they don't allow you to do that around here, you've got to go to the front, say what you want, and then they go get it for you. My question was that both of these were supposedly from the '70-81 fbody sport package years, and yet not the same diameter. I'm just a little confused, they're both close to 1.25 ( by my guesstimate) was there a 1.125 during those years? I don't know, I've had a few too many drinks over the past hour or two to be continuing this dialogue. Anyone other thoughts?

There was a 1 1/8" or 28mm sway bar. 1 1/4" is the one you want better know as the 32mm WS6

Well I spoke to the seller and he was most accomodating. It was advertised as 1.25" and he said that I could ship it back to him, and get my money back. He said he must have "misread" his caliper. Now my question is, he wants me to ship it back to him, where he will remeasure it, and if it isn't 1.25, he'll reimburse me fully. I'm a little hesitant to pay to ship it back to him, then wait on his payment back to me. Sounds like an honest guy via email, got right back to me, but I don't know. Any suggestions from those that have been down a similar path?
