Anyone swapped out the variable power steering unit for a regular one? What part #? What application?

I don't think that site is accurate. I thought the police/WX3 steering box was 12.7:1 and the civilian gear boxes were higher, maybe 14.1:1?

what's the RPO for variable rate steering.

Can variable rate box be used in a car not equipped with it?
(I found a caddy with a visually clean steering box and my boxy caprice needs a new box as it's leaking and has play)

Didn't the roadmaster have the highest of them all like 16.3:1 or something that were equipped with variable effort PS

- I swapped the variable ratio box out of my Roadmaster Wagon two years ago. Bill Harper was talking about developing improvements to the 12.7 boxes with Tom Lee at the time, but they weren't available yet.

I bought a NAPA reman. for a 9C1 as a "temporary" solution. I have no regrets at all.

When shopping for a replacement gear box, how do I know there selling me the 9C1/SS and not the Civi gear box?
Markings on the case, etc?

- Hopefully your supplier gets the numbers right. I'm not certain there are any distinguishing marks to differentiate between these two boxes.

If the supplier makes a mistake, you will be aware by the amount of turns from lock-to-lock. I can't remember the difference, but a search will quickly provide this info for you.

Steve, I don't think that chart is showing all the options available in those years-just the ones that would be of interest to someone looking to pull a box OUT of a B-body.

I saw an informal review of a new steering box now available in the aftermarket, the writer was very impressed with the feel of the unit. I believe we will hear more in months to come about it ( the writer was a magazine editor). I also saw it mentioned here . Yes it's more expensive but it is brandy new-with some of the problems that rebuilt boxes have occasionally, it might be worth it. Surf around Delphi's site, they are very proud of it. (600 series, 670 model I believe). Bill you seem to be up on what the OEM's are doing, have you heard anything about this?

EDIT- more info here ,about the 4th page or so.
