3 Endlink Pairs Bent! Help! - Chevy Impala SS Forum

Ok here is the deal;after I changed my rims, which are 17X8 with Nitto 555's, I started to notice some squeaking noise. I have a BMR Front Bar and a Hellwig Rear bar with Hotchkis Springs and All Body Bushings. I put the car on the lift and then started pushing down on the swaybar, the endlink Bolt was bent into the shape of a "J". That was the passenger's side, the drivers side had a little bent but not that drastic. I got another pair of ES Endlinks and they bent the same way! Then I got the GM F-Body Endlinks that was reccomended on the B-Body Site, the bolts were even thinner and bent again. I don't autocross or drive my car hard, it's my Daily Driver. Not to mention these bolts bent by themselves. I intalled them Saturday night, went home which is 5miles away and the next morning, bent! Can anyone figure out this unsolved mystery?

Is the bar on correctly? Sounds like it may be upside down, and therefore bending the endlinks by putting side forces on them that were never intended.

I have the same bar (F-body bar, the BMR bar is a clone) and DO push the car....HARD. I have had ONE endlink come loose before (GM one), but never bent one....

Hey ED how can you tell if the swaybar is up-sidedown? The piece where the Endlink is connected to pointing up. Kind of like this

gotta second Ed, Only time I have seen end links bend or break is when the bar it on up-side-down, Or in a bind on a drastically lowered car.
If you look at the bar from the side. (With the wheel off if necessary) The bar should be basically parallel to the Lower A-arm Upper surface and the end links should be close to vertical.
If your still not sure just take a peak under any other caprice, Older GM mid or full size car and look at the bar orientation, then compare.

Hey Gentleman,
Just an update; I talked to Frank over at BMR and he did some research over this matter of me bending Endlinks. Came to the conclusion that my swaybar may be defective. I tried now 4 pairs of Endlinks (all different sizes to compensate the 1" lowering Springs) and nothing seems to work, the damn bolts keep on bending foward, like it wants to shoot out from underneith. Well wish me luck and I hope it's just the bar not something else wrong. [img]8.gif[/img]
