I'm just starting to plan my body drop for late this summer but I have a few questions to figure out. I'm gonna need extended control arms, but they'll have to be at least 2" extended (not sure exactly how much yet). My question is, should I get some aftermarket ones and have them extended, or should I just try to extend the stock ones with pieces from a donor set? I thought to maybe see if a company like BMR could custom make me some longer ones, which would be my best choice. But if they cant then what should I do? Also, I dont wanna get an aluminum driveshaft cause I'll have to redo my whole tunnel since they are so much thicker. Will the stock one hold up if I have it extended? What about with 3.73's also? BTW, Jason from Street Trends has hotchkis arms which he extended over 2" with a stock length aluminum driveshaft. Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure what you should do, but I do know what you shouldn't do. [img]smile.gif[/img] I would not try to extend the stock control arms. They are very flimsy and don't have much material to weld too. I would stick to lengthening after market arms.

i agree with bad rod, don't try to extend the oem, they are very thin an won't hold up even if you box them too, just buy yourself some extended one. [img]5.gif[/img]

If you intend to move the axle back 2" you will need to extend both upper and lower trailing arms - I would try to locate a used set of tubular ones and then get a mild steel tube with an ID to match the OD, cut them in half and fit to your pinion angle requirements, then weld up.

I would also be very cautious of a drive shaft 2" longer than the stock SS one.
That is getting very long to be putting a bunch of HP through! Believe me you do not want a shaft coming apart at speed. Been there and it is REAL UGLY!
DO NOT try to lenghten your stock one!

I would talk to DENNY'S in NY and go with there recommendation - 718-875-6640

Thanks for the responses. Extending tubular aftermarket arms sounds like the best way to go. If I cant find any I'll prob get BMR's since they're pretty inexpensive. Maybe I can have some made a little longer from them anyways.

Another question. I'm not really sure about how the pinion angle works. If I were to extend the arms myself, would I extend uppers and lowers the same exact amount to keep the same angle? Cause I was thinking, since they mount at different points on the car, then I dont think it would stay proportional. But I'm not sure.

About the driveshaft now, I'll talk to Denny's when I'm getting ready to do it. I'm just gonna hate cutting the tunnel in my car and making it bigger if I gotta go with a thicker one.

I would suggest lengthening the lower arms first to get the Axle placed where you want/need it. The with rear springs removed
set the axle at your desired ride height. Fab. upper arms to length required to put pinion angle within spec. The main idea is to have a slight angle at both the front and rear u joints to load the bearings.
Front is usually about 1.5 deg. and rear is about 2.5 deg. I don't have a FSM handy to verify.

As far as the driveshaft the factory shaft is 3" in dia., a 3.5 dia. shaft fits fine in a stock car. I would not think you would have to cut the tunnel on account of the driveshaft unless the radical lowering causes clearance problems.
