Question

I know this has been gone over before, read tons of threads. I have a 96 9C1. Would like to obtain stock SS height (at least for now) along with a little better handling. Is this possible? Please provide manufacture and/or part #'s with ideas. I know I can get stock springs, looking for a little better quality & better prices if available. Thanx all....hopefully this thread will clear up the vague ones a bit.

...I want to do the same thing with my car...anxiously awaiting replies. I wonder if anybody makes standard height ImpySS springs but a little stiffer. I really don't think I want my car any lower than that at this point.

Global west makes stock height stiff springs.
Do a serach for them, there's been MUCH discussion about global west products.

Global west only makes front springs. I think it has been decided that right now, for stock height springs, until someone makes something better for the rear, go with stock Impala SS springs out back and global west up front. They may be a tiny bit higher than stock Impala SS springs, but they are very close.

The wagon sprigns can be used in the rear of the car, but they are too stiff for handling, ideally you would want something in the middle of the stiffness between the stock SS springs and the wagon springs, but there isn't a solution out there yet.

Well here is some info I just received this morning and may be an option for you. I called the Moog Tech Line, and although I did not get as much help as I wanted I got some. Moog has a product called Cargo Coils. They are progressive rate springs, as more pressure or weight is applied they become stiffer while maintaing stock ride & height(without a load). The part number for the Caprice is CC621, however, if you want to lower the car you can use part number CC507. This is for the mid 60s El Camino, Olds 442 and similar models. It will essentially handle the same load as the CC621, but lower the back end 1 1/8 inches. So add this to your Global West front springs and you have an SS ride height with better handling and maintain good ride quality. The Cargo Coils are a MOOG product and you can buy them at Auto parts stores like Advance Auto. Or, you could just buy a set of used SS springs from somebody who upgraded and try those on for size. The CC507s are in my car right now. You probably don't want them.

The CC507s ride approx 1/2" HIGHER than stock SS springs.

They are also TOO STIFF, they inhibit weight transfer on launch. In plain English, that means that it becomes a heckuva lot harder to get going "quickly" without spinning the rear tires.

Due to their progressive nature, they DO ride pretty nice though [img]smile.gif[/img]

For MY handling setup, they are also too stiff from a handling perspective. They could however work with a smaller rear bar than what I have (HA rear bar).

Not sure if it is the CC621 or CC627s that Navy Lifer and fast_ss1 are playing around with right now, but they are SHORTER than stock SS springs (by probably 1/2" to 1"). Stiffness is similar to stock SS springs though (they are progressive, so they start out softer than stock springs and end up stiffer).

...I was considering going to stock SS rear springs + lower cushion delete and cut about 3/4" off my 9c1 springs to get the car down a little. Anybody done this???

I'm supposedly using older "boxy" 9C1 springs in the rear. The rear felt more in control compared to the original 9C1 springs however not too stiff. My suspension setup (signature) feels very balanced for the street.

I have done exactly that. I removed 3/4 COIL from the front stock 9C1 springs and installed the stock SS springs in the rear. It worked out well. No clearance issues, the stance looks good(sorry no pics) and the car drives hard just fine.
