okay...i have a 95 caprice classic covert to a ss... i just finshed the convertion when i put ss springs....okay here's the deal my car seat high and i kno the impala sits lower so i bought 96 impala ss springs and when we put in the back springs i saw a huge diffrence..but when we put in the front i could not see any diffrence and the front still stits very high i can stick my hole hand in between the tires side ways thats about 4 1/2 inch to 5 inch from the top of the tire and the wheel well.....what could be the problem because i kno impala's dont site that high on the front......help please

Ray,

A few possibilities on the front springs:

1. Incorrect springs--is there a tag on the spring with a letter code (3 letters)? If so, what is the code?

2. Springs are not installed correctly. The springs must be indexed into the lower control arms, so that the end of the wire is located to cover the first of the 2 holes in the bottom of the stamped pocket. Proper location of the springs results in one hole ONLY uncovered.

3. The spring(s) are installed upside down--the "flat" end of the springs go UP, the round wire end goes DOWN.

Also, make sure you have the top of the spring centered in the spring pocket correctly....But it sounds like you may have the wrong springs like Navy Lifter suggested. I would check into that first. Good Luck.

And of course if you disassembled the front suspension, you are supposed to tighten the upper contorl arm springs afetr the car is settled on the ground. In reality it is impossible to get a wrench on all of the bolts, so you must anticipate it before you install the upper arms, and tighten the shaft bolts accordingly. If the bolts are tightened with the arm at the wrong angle-of-the-dangle, they will bind and could hold the car up higher then you want.

Since Ray didn't say anything about changing any of the suspension parts other than the springs, I didn't comment on the bushing assembly procedure.

My parts page says you have the lowest rate of 5 different springs for the SS. Incidentally, they are also used on the wagon.

Did you ever figure this out? Did you, at any point remove the front sway bar when you replaced the front springs?

So that means i have springs froma wagon and not from a impala ss i dont understand...ps and we did not move the sawy bar

I am not mistaken the top of the springs has the tag. What some folks were suggesting is that the springs were not properly installed on the top. You may installed the springs with a coil caught on the crown. Also make sure that the bottom coil only covers one hole.
