Question

Can the Moog CC627 actually handle a full trunk worth of cargo? Also, are there any 627 owners out there who would like to weigh in on their experiences?

They'll handle the weight better than stock springs, but aren't as stiff as something like the Wagon springs or CC507 springs (or cc627s with airbags, which may be your best bet here).

What exactly are you looking to do, what ride height do you want, and how much weight is a "full trunk"?

Similar height (would guess the cc507 is slightly, and I do mean slightly, shorter), similar initial rate but the CC507 is progressive (9C1 is linear) so the CC507 ends up stiffer once you get into it a bit.

Thanx Ed. I'm trying to decide which way I want to go. I'd like my car ('95 9C1) a couple of inches lower all the way around & a bit firmer ride, but I don't want to start hacking or swapping springs to find out it's un-driveable later.

Damn, it sure is awesome to have the all-knowing AutocroSSer answering my suspension setup questions. This is too cool.

I'm in a 9C1 now, with stock 9C1 springs all around. I'm looking for a ride height that is lower all around, but especially in the front, as I am looking for a slight rake (car is completely level right now). I absolutely hate the look of slammed cars, and don't want to go really any lower than stock SS height. I'd also like to see less body roll, but I think stiffer sway bars are what I'd focus on for that.

A "full trunk" consists of maybe 600 lbs or so of total cargo. My only concern here though is that I don't want the tires rubbing. I only carry cargo a few times a year, so I really don't care how low it sits when loaded, as long as my tires don't rub. I don't want to deal with airbags. I just found out the cc627 may sit a little LOWER than an impala, so unless its REALLY stiff, I doubt it will be able to handle heavy loads without rubbing. Maybe the 507 is more my thing. I don't doubt it can handle the cargo, but with Stock SS sized springs up front (I'll probably find something stiffer and cut it), will the 507 look too high in the back? Also, what's a nice front spring thats stiff and SS sized?

I went with the Moog CC621s. They are a bit less stiff than the 627s and far better than stock anything for loading up the back.

I have a trailer with a 460-500lb hitch weight. When I place it on the rear end, the back end still sags until I place my weight distributing bars on the hitch. Then it goes to a fully stock height since the bars distribute the hitch weight across all axles on the rig (car and trailer).

I will tell you first hand that even the 627 (or stronger if they are avail) will have a VERY tough time keeping 600lbs of cargo weight without saging. If you are towing, get weight bars, if you are not towing, add air bags. It also will depend on how you are loading your car. If you place a bunch of stuff in the trunk, the rear will sag more than if you place the stuff in the back seat area since you will be north of the rear axle and that will have some of the weight via the frame sent out to the front axles. Placing most of the weight in the trunk will keep most of that weight on the rear axle (as is my case with a trailer) causing sag, no matter what you do spring wise.

P.S.--

The 621s raised the back end up a bit less than 1/4 of an inch. To me that was an unexpected plus since it gave it a slight slammed look when not loaded down. [img]smile.gif[/img]

thanks for that reply. Sagging isn't a problem as long as it doesn't get to the point of rubbing. My 9c1 springs drop maybe an inch and a half or so, but never come close to rubbing. Oh, and upon consideration, I don't think I've ever really come close to 600 lbs in the trunk. All it really is is just clothes, computer, and living essentials that I haul back and forth to college. Its enough to fill the trunk and a good portion of the back seat, but I really don't think it gets up to 600 lbs... maybe 400 tops? I'm really bad at estimating weight.
