Springs.

I want to lower my 96 Caprice. I had Eibachs on my 93 and liked the amount of lowering but they were a little too soft for my liking. I would not mind going lower and am even considering the early bilsteins (can't remember the #'s) from the boxy's cuz they're supposed to be stiffer. I would like to toss the car around through exit ramps, etc. but do not need a full autoX setup. A little firmer is better. I just checked using the search but was unconvinced on any particular set up. Are the SST's still around? The H&R's seem interesting, and you can't beat the price on the Intrax'. Like I said, I know it's been done to death, but please...one mo' time. TIA for any help.

Hey Sean.

If you want to go a little lower than Eibachs, you may want to look into Hotchkis lowering springs.
http://www.hotchkisperformance.com

Check some of my threads from the past months or so. I had decided on the stiff Bilsteins as well, and I purchased them from http://www.shox.com

My shocks should be here tomorrow

As for springs, I personally wanted something jst a tad bit lower than stock SS, but I have no problem with SS springs. So a friend's uncle (mechanic at Chevy dealer) is going to give me his price on SS springs, but if I do not go with SS springs I am planning on buying Eibach.

Some websites of interest:
http://www.hotchkisperformance.com http://www.shox.com http://www.thunderracing.com

If anyone else can think of any helpful websites, please post them!

Hope this helps, Sean

Scott;

Thanx for the consistent help in this and other posts. That thunderracing link looks like a good one, i'll definitely be bookmarking that one. How much were your shox total incl. shipping? Thanx again.

Always glad to help out, Sean

I ordered the stiff Bilsteins from shox.com (they have a phone # if you want to call instead of giving your credit card # out over the internet):

Front: Part # B46-1104, $62.45 each.
Rear: Part # B46-0929, $62.45 each.

$62.45 * 4 = $249.80, and $20 for shipping brings the grand total to $269.80.

They were shipped on Monday and I just recieved them on Friday via UPS Ground. I am still waiting for my friend's uncle to give me a good time to install them, as well as settle between Impala SS springs and Eibachs.

Good luck in your search, and let us know if you need any other advice

Intrax here MightyCaprice with the linear rate Bilsteins. I like them pretty good and your right once agin, they are cheap. From what I have drove my car I would recogmend them to any one. Ride is good and shocks make a big difference. Just my $.02, hope this helps.

Hey Kevin, do you know off hand if the linear rate ones are the early shocks or the later ones. That's probably the route i'll be going with the intrax and bilsteins. I'm switching over the front bar to the F-bar next weekend. I'm holding off on the rear til I can upgrade the ctrl arms. Probably BMR's , that'll have to wait though til I can convince my wife on the price of the bilsteins.

Thanx for the price Kevin, that's just what i'm looking for.

Oh yea I got my springs from summit, I did this for the simple fact that they have them in stock and ship fast. I think I could have saved like $10 getting them some where else but I didn't want to have to ask my self if the company was really reliable.

Hey Kevin; do you know if your alignment will stay within specs with the intrax or is it going to be slightly out...way out, or what. Also, I can get the rear Bilsteins from Autozone for $54.95 but fronts are $89.99 So i'll order rears from there and fronts from shox.com. Thanx again.
