Just wondering why we don't have a what is the best components for this application sticky? I think I've replied to two similar posts in of the same nature within the last couple days. Nothing against the newbies(I really do love you guys as we have all been there and you are keeping these cars modded) but they should have a suspension FAQ with best springs, shocks, swaybars, bushings, etc with price and what is best for daily driving, auto x-crossing, drag racing, etc so that those with and without budgets know what to get and what they can expect. Opinions welcome

Yep, like in the wagon forum. There's a whole bunch of stuff that people like me want when they join the forum. all the good stuff that bill harper and autocrosser wrote on ball joints, front and rear control arms, shocks, springs etc.

Because, to be honest, the "best" stuff varies WIDELY depending on what the individual person is trying to accomplish.

Hell, for some folks the "best" for what they are doing would actually be the bone stock suspension.

I agree on the differences of opinion, but a post with options, FAQ's, advisements (like the balljoints) might be cool. Sort of a cheap a$$ mods but suspension specific. Top 5 popular shocks, springs, swaybars, bushings.

Something like:

Shocks:

Monroe SS ( cheap )
Bilstein insert model # ( medium )
Hal's (expensive)

Swaybars

Fbar 70-81 1.25" Z28 WS6 model (cheap)
Hotchkiss (medium)
HA/HO (expensive)

Bushings

AC Delco (link to Navy Lifer's list)
Polygraphite (PST's)
Global West Del Alum

Would this solve the problem of people asking redundant questions, probably not. But it might give those that want to respond with do a search! somewhere to point to. Sometimes you can look through 50 returns on a search and still have a hard time finding a relevant thread. Then folks could use the stickied thread to link to good old posts where topics have been covered before.

I'm with Ed. Way too many combos and uses to just say "this is best". The best way is to research if the combination you have done is being used by someone else, and then ask specific questions about components/useage.

I agree with Ed. "The Best" is too
subjective.
The "Top Five" (or so) idea is a good one,
maybe post characteristics of specific
set-ups. Then again, what feels "controlled
and firm" to one guy may be too harsh to
another.

Ok, I see where you guys are coming from. How about a "before you post" sticky that says search first and if you don't find your answer then tell us what you want to use your car for and what your budget is. I know a lot of replies start with "well, what do you want to do and what is your budget".

Well I am on a tight budget, as most all of us are in the real world and here is what my plan is. I am currently buying the parts and plan on redoing my suspension this winter. If this helps anyone, great. Otherwise enjoy.

Body Bushings
348080 / 7B3/9C1 Upper Bushing - Positions 1 & 3 -- $7.32 X 4 = $29.28
330986 / 7B3/9C1 Upper Bushing – Position 2 -- $8.06 X 2 = $16.12
330942 / 7B3/9C1 Upper Bushing - Positions 4, 6, & 7 -- $8.06 X 6 = $48.36
488610 / 7B3/9C1 Upper Bushing – Position 5 -- $7.45 X 2 = $14.90
377888 / radiator core support Upper Bushing -- $2.48 X 2 = $4.96
472160 / radiator core support Lower Bushing -- $13.33 X 2 = $26.66
457915 / ‘Mueller’ Lower Bushing – Positions 1, 2, 3, 4 & 6 -- $6.09 X 10 = $60.90
457917 / ‘Mueller’ Lower Bushing – Position 7 -- $5.17 X 2 = $10.34
3524497 / Replacement Bolts - 85mm length -- $1.68 X 10 = $16.80
14085301 / Replacement Bolt - for #3 position only -- $2.50 X 2 = $5.00

Springs
Stock Impala springs
Front Spring isolators (2) 15597425, $4.21 x 2 = $8.42
Rear Spring isolators (4) 88913143, $1.59 x 4 = $6.36
Airlift 1000 air bags 60786, 95-96 Impala Summit racing, $66.88

Shocks
Monroe Severe Service 550012, $65 and 550013, $78
or Monroe Sensatracs 5906, $50 and 5966, $48 (note buy 3 get one free through Oct, Promotion).

Front End
Bump stops- ZQ8 (2) 15956547, $7.65 x 2 = $15.30
Stock front end rebuild kit-$245
Centerlink-$40 both from Power Performance Motorsports

This setup is for comfort and price, not performance. I was going to go all out but scaled back after sticker shock. This will basically get me back to new stock parts.
