I have been reading all the post on shocks and wanted to verify.

I have cut one coil off the front of each of my 9C1 springs, and I would like a good shock that does not float.

From earlier posts it looks like the Bilstein Pn 1104 is the shock of choice for the front.

When I lowered my truck I had to buy shocks designed for lowered trucks. Are these Bilsteins the correct ones for me?

One more thing. Is it a problem if I only replace the front shocks with the stiff ones? I don't know how many miles are on the rears, but they seem to be working fine.

I know I won't get the full benefit of all shocks being stiff, but will the car handle bad with different rated shocks front and rear?

You'll be fine with the 1104's. I have them on my car and love them. I also kept my stock rear shocks (which are air shocks BTW) and the ride is great! Handles awesome too!!!

I ran 1104s with ST lowering springs for a year with no shock issues. I can't imagine cutting one turn got you much lower. Can't speak about mixing the shocks - I didn't do that.

Thanks guys.

Now I just need to find them. I tried the dealer and the part numbers for 77-90 Caprice have been replaced with the part number for 91-96 (softer) Bilsteins. (anyone else see this? I watched the parts guy look up the shocks, and that is what the list showed)

So I hunted around town and nobody carries Bilsteins. Living in a small town in Canada is brutal for getting parts. If it is not the cheapest thing made it ain't available in this town .

Looks like i have to drive to Toronto or get bent over at the border for tax, duty, brokerage and the exchange rate.

with the car sitting without shocks (and from what I hear it will settle more) the front wheel well opening is 26 1/2 inches off the ground. Which means it was sitting right at the bump stops. Luckily when I removed them so they could be cut, the car didn't drop any more.

Not sure what the issues are with Bilstein delivery to Canada, but the best deal on this side of the border is from shox.com. A company named Anderson & Stiehle from El Cajon California. It may not make much economic sense to buy German made shocks from a company in California for delivery to Canada. I am told that the shocks come to the USA in New Jersey FWIW.

Yes... DEFINATELY go with www.shox.com

They have the best pricing and their shipping is very reasonable. I wouldn't see why they couldn't ship 'em to the great white north, eh...?

Oh , they ship them alright Bill, then all the brokerage fees, taxes, etc. get added on !
Big difference than buying in the Continental U.S.
I know, just finished a mini group purchase on Bilsteins to Ontario...

what if the car is a little bit lower? say you were going to get the djm 2-3 lowering springs. what should would work good with that? the taxes and dutys are a killer. i'm glad i live right on the border. i have a friend in the us, and my dad works out of there so ii can get parts shipped there then go over and pick them up. then just pay duty. works out for the better, it helps to be close tho.
