Questions on Installing Eibach Springs - Chevy Impala SS Forum

I just received my set of Eibach pro kit springs. I was wondering if I need to know anything when installing them.

Is it just basically take one out, put new one in? Besides shaving the front bump stop 3/4" at an angle.

I remmeber hearing when I bought the SS springs that I never installed that you need to align the bottom of the pigtail between two holes or something. Not sure if I need to do that here or not.

Also, I bought the springs used, so no installation directions.

hey i recently installed eibach springs and hotchkis sway bars, trailing arms
I also installed new shocks at the same time the rear springs fell out easily when the shocks were removed and made for an easy install however, ive heard horror stories about frount springs so i had a mechanic do it ($125). but im sure that you can do it with spring compressers from an auto store

Hey Brett..

When you look at the control arm you will see the two holes on the bottom. At the same spot is also a point where you can see a POCKET. That area is where the pigtail of the spring goes.

I was able to REMOVE those springs without using a compressor. All I needed to do was unhook the lower balljoint and the springs pulled right out with a few tugs. Tape your spring isolator onto the top of the spring with some electrical tape or something if it falls off the top of the frame.

On the rears, I think you face the pigtails on the bottom forwards towards the front of the car, and install them so that the compressed coils are up top. Just remove the shocks and hold the car up by the frame, letting the rear axle hang down after removing the shocks. The springs will pull right out, then install new ones.. Jack the axle back up, and attatch the shocks to the axle again, and you are done.

The bottom end of pigtail points towards the left side of the car (driver's side). Put them in so you can read the Eibach label/stamp (not upside down). do NOT let the rear end hang down any lower than you must to remove shock studs and rear springs. This is so you don't stretch the brake line and possibly damage it. Definitely have a good quality 2 ton jack on hand for front spring removal. It will really help when manuevering the front control arms downward at a very slow rate. you don't want those (stock?)springs flying out upon removal. The Eibachs will be a lot easier to put in and you shouldn't need a coil compressor. Good luck. Give this mod at least 4-5 hours if it's your first time. after you do one side it'll be much easier on the second.

I put them in, everything seems fine. Gonna check the pig tails on the rear tomorrow possibly.

Everything went good. It would have taken 3 hours max, but I spent an hour trying to get the ball joint in on the passenger side. And of course, after I took a smoke break, and wasn't pissed off, I grabbed the pry bar and it popped right in.

Next time it would take 2 hours max.

I found directions on the install by searching, and of course "Contents under pressure, huh? Can be too much pressure." Lol. Took the final bolt off, which happened to be the sway bar link, which the directions mentioned nothing about, and BOOM!. Whoops. Laughed that one off.

I just did mine, took me 2hrs to do the whole car. no spring compressor (warning its dangerous to not use a spring compressor) but I have done this many times, and have developed a method. Rears are a pain because you have to align them into the spring pockets before you put the car back on the ground. If you need more details on the install I can give them to you but it will take awhile to type it all out.
