b-body = f-body handling ? - Chevy Impala SS Forum

Who knows what suspension pieces are needed to make our cars handle like the f-body? I've heard of many differnt set ups. I am getting the impression that Hotchkis is the way to go. Is their a cheaper alternative. Their kits are way out of my pocket book at the moment. I heard cutting 9c1's is one way to go. But does that make it to bouncey? Would a pair of kyb solve that or Bilstiens? As you can see i have many questions, i had sprints too low too bouncy now back to stock 9c1. What are all your ideas and why?

I don't know about it being like f-body handling, but my car is pretty stiff. Here goes:

G-W front springs
Moog cc507 rear springs
1104/0929 Bilsteins
F-body front sway bar
HO rear sway bar
poly bushings throughout

Like I said, it's pretty stiff. No noticable body roll, handles well. I would like it to be a bit tighter, but for that I would need to change to different wheels/tires. Currently it rides on 15x8's. I never drove it on the stock pieces, they were too worn. I went with this setup after going through an exhaustive search on this forum(lots of great info in the archives if you are patient).

I have only pushed this setup hard a couple of times. One was out on the highway at 75mph to avoid hitting a car that slammed his brakes out of nowhere. Again, no body roll and the car remained totally predictable. I, on the other hand, had to pull over and catch my breath.

Is there a very noticable difference from the 9c1 95 springs to the springs you are using? Are the 9c1 springs adequate? or should they be replaced for a much better suspension?

I cut my 9c1s 1 coil and it made a very noticeable difference and sits just right IMO. Cutting springs makes them stiffer, BTW, so that's a good thing. I did it 50% for looks and 50% for handling and I'm very happy with both results. I also put new SS springs in back, the rest of my suspension is stock except for ~2* neg camber. Still no match for the Fbody, much much better than stock.

But my main reason for replying is to tell you that cutting springs makes them stiffer.

I just picked up some stock SS springs and going to put those in for now. But i need new shocks i had kyb's in my camaro and loved then and right now summit has em for 23.88 a piece. Has anyone heard anything bad about the kybs in our car's due to the extra weight and all that. Let me know what you all think ill also post to get others opinion's.
