Question

Hey ed,

Long story but I just got a 2nd gen fbody front bar for my 96. I paid vse for their front one in dec but recieved the heim joint one sent it back yada yada yada, still no front bar from matt.

Soooo.... I have had the rear ha bar on for months and have been very happy but it has really left the front lacking so I decided to get the f body bar as I also have a 80 z28 that it will fit if vse ever decides to send me the bar that I paid for months ago.

Anyway (sorry, just had vent a little about a bone head) I am wonder what hardware to use with the fbody bar. I have the hardware suggested to mount the ha bar at the frame but am wondering if I should use the factory end links, the supplied end links or get the 1le end links.

New end links (factory length is OK), Energy Suspension GREASABLE Poly bushings (1.25" = 32mm) and NEW bolts to hold the bushing brackets to the frame (the stock bolts are "torque to yield", and should be thrown away if removed for any reason).

So it sounds like the 10288551 frame bushings should work fine. And then re-use the SS end link bolts and washers with 1le bushings?

Oh, I also have the 15959689 Bolts for the frame brackets.

I have heard that frame bushings need to be trimmed a little bit to accomodate the height? Is this true?

From my website:

"I used the recommended F-body 1LE 32 mm bushings (GM part # 10288551) and end-link kit (GM part # 10221779). You could try to reuse your stock end-link hardware, but I have yet to remove it without breaking the bolt."

That last part is something to pay attention to- don't assume that you'll be able to re-use your stock end-link hardware! Order up the whole 1LE end-link set and you'll be a happier person.

Aint California great!!! I used a 1/2" wrench on the nut and 13 mm deep socket attached to my Makita cordless and spun em out in about 30 seconds a piece. The frame bushings worked great and I currently have the original end links on their but have ordered the 1le for installation later.

How about the rear bar? I hear the place to get it is malibu performance.... Do I just ask for "HA/HO rear sway bar for 1996 b-body" ? Will they include all the stuff necessary (bushings (are there any?), bolts, etc)

Hey dsf,

The rear bar I went with was the ha bar. I do not recommend them at all but from what I have heard malibu performance is very on the ball.

As for mounting hardware you ABSOLUTELY MUST replace your lower control arms or the larger rear sway bar will destroy them. As for the hardware they attach just like the factory bar to the rear lower control arms. I dont know the exact links but b body net and rob cheeks impala ss home page have very detailed write ups about all the sway bars that have been very acurate except for the part about how very very bad the customer service from matt a vse is really is.

I used 1LE endlinks, of course taking the stock ones off was a MAJOR PITA,
combo of bending the endlink helped some but ultimately a few hack saw blades did the trick. Don't remember how I did the frame mount bushings.

If I replace the front bar and rear bar and the rear lower control arms, do I need to get the front end re-aligned?
