Hey Guys

I'm trying to remove my lower control arm bushings, and I made a tool similar to what you see here: http://www.sportruck.com/howto/rebuildkit/5.htm

But its not working so slick for me. However, I'm also attempting to remove the metal sleeve, which you can see is still in the lower control arm at the bottom of the link above. I assume that the sleeve is still in tact in there because they're installing PST bushings, that don't include the metal sleve.

I'm attempting to remove the metal sleeve because this picture http://www.napaonline.com/images_pro...ized/65313.jpg shows the metal sleeve in tact on the replacment part. I'm not getting any fancy PST bushings, just stock replacments for now.

So, does anyone know of any alternative methods of removing the LCA bushings?? Or some tips on removing them with the tool I've fabbed up? I just can't seem to budge them.

Thanks for anything!

I always use an air chisel, and catch the lip to push them out. With a blunt chisel one can walk them right out.

The ball joint tool for the LCA also works on the bushings.

You Didn't Say What Type Of Car You Were Doing So I Assume It's The 1980 Olds You Have Listed. Not Sure How There LCA Bushings Are Configured But I Used a Ball Joint Press That You Can Rent From An Auto Store. Make Sure You Use The Steel Sleeve That Fits The Best That's In The Ball Joint Press Kit (Mine Came With 3 Different Sizes). I Also Used a Large Flat Washer Between The Press And The LCA Bushing Your Trying To Push Out So It Pushes Evenly.Have Someone Help Hold The Arm While Your Tightening The Press And They Will Pop Right Out About 3/4 Of The Way Out. Keep In Mind, The New Bushings Have a Rubber Lip On The Outside Edge When Re-Installing The New Bushings And You DONT Want To Damage It Putting The New Ones Back In. Many Of Us Here Replaced The Factory Bushings With Poly Bushings. We Removed The Actual Poly Bushing From The Metal Sleeve They Come In 1st, Pressed Only The New Sleeve In And Then Pushed The Poly Bushing Into The New Sleeve To Prevent It From Getting Damaged Here's a Few Links For Your Reading....Mike
