Just wondering, is it time to change my shocks? I have 78,000 on my Impy?

Maybe, probably - but the test is real easy. Bounce your weight on the bumper and count the number of rebounds the car makes before it stops moving. Anything more than three is too many, and shocks should be changed. Some folks will change at anything more than two bounces. Your bux, your butt, your call.

Depends on your usage. If it's been almost highway and SMOOTH highway, they very well could be good.

If it's been on bumpier roads, they are almost certainly shot.

I changed mine at approx 50K, and they were definitely shot. They still passed (barely) the "bounce test" but sure as heck didn't damp like new any more!

If you do purchase new shocks, buy the Bilstiens. The stiffer ones. You will love them.

Thanks Youall... I am already looking at the Bilstiens... I have a buddy who is running them and he's got me the part numbers...

I am also looking for a good spring solution to drop the back end an inch or so... just wanna flatten him out, I hear ST's are decent. Anyone have a lead for me on springs?? I just need the rear ones.

I think you're in for one helluva surprise if you swap shocks

Come on ED! You know me better than that. I have rode in few new SS's! Well 40K miles new, and mine are atleast as good as or better than theirs. Just ask HuSSker.

P.S. Don't worry though my SS does have a nice future to look foward to!!!

MadMav: Just finished a mini-group purchase up here on Bilsteins Mav...
Haven't put them on yet, but I am anticipating a noticeable difference between them and my 72,000 mile OEM shocks...
Yes, most of my travel is on fairly smooth highway, but there IS occasional bumps in the road...
Hmmm...sounds like daily life, doesn't it ?

You're assuming that they're even still good at 40K . In my case, they were pretty well shot even at that point.....
