Budget LO5 Build... Yeah I said that too. Stay away from Jegs & Summit catalogs. Keep up the good work.

Make sure you get the LO5 computer, or at least the chip from an LO5 computer.

You can get a set of Vortec heads, and a manifold with TBI adapter for about a 40 HP increase over the stock rating. You can also put a cam in it, and get a chip burned for the cam/heads specs. You can also get a slightly larger TBI, but you will have to modify the adapter for the larger bores. Another option is to smooth the bores of the TBI you have to get more flow. You would also have to open up the distributor hole for the OEM distributor.

While you have it apart, try to get the fuel line from a 91-93 Fleetwood, with an LO3/5, or both lines from a 93 FW. Both will have a Schrader port to check fuel pressure.

The Caddy hat needs to be modified a little to work right. I have since begun using the Spectrum carb hats on my engines (post 4 of the last link). The TBI computers can not be tuned with a laptop, The tuning is in the chip, and they must be "burned" for the setup you have. The guy at dynamicefi can burn them for your "formula".

A couple of areas that need to be addressed. DO NOT lift the engine with a carb plate if you put the Vortec heads on it. You must also use the Felpro 98000T gasket set, or it will probably leak initially, or will leak in the future. Use the original LO3/5 water pump, and FEAD.

Fred, Normally I look to your advice on these cars. This one time you're not seeing all that is in the Dynamic link. They add an additional board that allows you to connect to a computer. Just a little from their site.
"The EBL system sends ECM data to a laptop or PC running the What's Up Display program. It is simply the best and fastest data logger available for any GM ECM. The data stream contains all available engine and vehicle parameters."
It uses TunerPro. http://www.dynamicefi.com/Tune_Intro.php

Gbhs72, the program you have referenced is for a flashable OBD1 computer (94-95 and some others). The 91-93 systems are not flashable. They require a base tune that is burned into the removable chip. The parameters may be able to be read, but the reference maps can not be changed on the 91-93 chip computers without changing the chip.

Do you even read the links people provide?

http://www.dynamicefi.com/EBL_SFI6_Flash.php

Says right there...

"The EBL SFI-6 Flash does away with the burning and swapping of chips. On-board flash is programmed with the What's Up Display. No more swapping chips, no more ECM on the floor of the vehicle. Put the ECM back into place under the dash (or seat, or kick panel or wherever it is intended to be). Then flash and data log a new calibration right from the same cable via the What's Up Display program."
