I think it's time I add an alarm to my car.

From what I'm reading, anything by DEI is the way to go.

I kinda got my sights set on a DEI Hornet 564T

What do you think about this alarm?

It's crazy that I can buy that alarm for under 200 bucks and install it myself.

I called a few local shops and the cheapest 2 way paging alarm I can find, installed is close to 400 bucks!

Quick story: i personally have never had an expensive alarm. i have an alpine alarm with seperate remote start which all costed about 300 give or take at the time.
my roommate got the most expensive on his Tahoe, about 600 something great range, LCD blah blah. anyways he went to Orlando that same week. about 3 in the morning truck was broke into and wires snatched from under the dash so fast the siren barely went off. It would have DEFINTLY been stolen if his transmitter did not alarm also. which prompted him running out of the hotel room startled the crooks and they jumped in a van and ran. Music was JUST put in, 24s and expensive personal stuff in the truck...so right there. 600 and something dollars only takes one time for it to pay off.these crooks were pros not little teens.

The unit I have my eyes on is actually made by the same company as viper and has just about all the same features, but for a lot less since it's a install yourself kit.

A 2 way pager is a requirement no matter what I get..

And Python.

I have a crimestopper 2 way pager remote in three of my rides.

My Elco has a basic Viper alarm (no 2 way pager). It works excellent for what I want. Then again, the Elco is parked in my garage 24/7

Car no. 5 has a Code Alarm system. Good alarm. A little pricey and I am not too happy with the fact the rubberized buttons seem to wear out with use. A big plus is the ability to add functions like pop trunk, window roll-up, acuator cycling via the auxilary channels.

Car number 6 has a Python 2 way pager remote. I like this alarm, the range and everything. I am not happy about the fact that the battery quickly drains on this remote. Have'nt figured that out just yet. It is a pain to have to resort to removing the battery from the remote, but oh well.

Overall and for the money... I'd go with the Crimestopper alarm. The three of them have proven to be very reliable systems.

Last word of caution... your alarm system will only be as good as the installation. A poor installation will give you false alarms and lots of frustration.

Good luck.

The Viper/Python/Hornet alarms with the 2way LED style remote... Does it work as a pager too when the alarm is triggered? (Beeps, vibrates, etc)

From what I can tell in the PDF, it just flashes to verify the car started or you armed it, etc..

2 way pager will let you know if the alarm has been triggered.

This type of remote acts as a pager? Does it beep or vibrate or anything or just flash?
