Hey guys,

If you've read any of my previous posts you will see I am trying to make a few electronic upgrades. Another topic I know nothing about is alarm/remote start systems. So to cut to the chase here's what I am looking for:

A good quality long range remote start, with an alarm of sorts (better anti-thieft).

I have a 96 so I already have a remote.... I would really prefer to keep only one remote; is their some sort of system that is compatible with my original remote, or maybe a system that gives me a new remote but still allows me to use my power trunk, and door locks??

I wired up a Crimestopper system about 5 years ago on a camaro and it wasn't too bad. I know theirs diagrams out their for these cars. So I would like to purchase something I can install myself.

So whats hot on todays market??

Dan

The viper 5900 is the latest and greatest. Just got it installed last week and let me tell you this is a serious alarm.

Clifford is now owned by DEI which makes the viper so their top of the line alarms are pretty much the same but viper has a $2500 deductable remiburstment if you car gets jacked.

If you want to bring it down a notch the viper 791v is almost the same but the two way paging has a fraction of the distance.

Also, go on ebay and find a pair of whelen TIR3 led strobes, a dei 506T (glass break sensor) and two or four dei 513T (Piezo "Pain generators" interior sirens)and a backup battery. You could get all this extra stuff for about $200.

Have the installer add a relay to the horn honk output (continuos), on that relay put the peizo sirens and the strobes. With this it will fuction like a normal alarm with 2 way paging and remote start, but when the alarm goes off the strobes going off in your face making it impossible to work on anything in the car and the sirens, well one siren is enough too make it unbearable 4 sirens is brutal.

The Whelen TIR3 are the real deal when it comes to strobes, the are small, have a metal base with a solid impact resistant plastic cover, you could screw them into the metal of the pilars and it would take some force to get them out. Get the blue or red ones to attract the attention of the cops.

I hope this help, since I got my car broken into last I am doing everything for it not to happen again.

the best brand 2 go with is COMPUSTAR. i f**kin love it. its the best. its so much better then the viper. they just came out with a new one this month too. it works 2 miles away. the pager tells u the temp in ur car. it has a knock sensor that they put on ur windsheild so that ur friend can knock on it and itll page u, well wit the new 1 u can set it so that a certain amount of knocks will unlock ur doors. IT"S THE BEST

Compustar are great but having sold them both (in the past) I like the lifetime warranty on parts the vipers and other high end DEI alarms have over the one year you get on the compustar. Both are great but I'm more into the security and reliability.

Wow, sorry to hear about that car. Thats what I am trying to avoid.... but I got to tell you,... I think the strobes and siren are just a little overkill for the area I live in... (well maybe not)... I guess if I was to go that route I would have to have someone install it. Seems like that would be a huge pain to do myself. Although Im not all that concerned,.. a simple alarm would do just fine,.. 9 out of 10 times my car is parked right outside my house; and as unwelcoming of a sound I'm sure the sirens and stobes are.... the sound of a pump action shot gun that follows that rather dim alarm im looking for is sure to make a better statement.

Thanks for the help guys,

I will try and take a look into the Viper, I've heard they are good alarms... If I feel I can install one myself, I will, otherwise I will be back asking everyone where is a good place to get one of these bad boys installed.
