Floor shifter wiring. Trunk release.

Hello. I sold the floor shifter assembly to a happy 95 Impala SS owner. With the wiring connector disconnected from the shifter the starter will not crank and the trunk lid will not release. I suspect the electronics think the car is not in Neutral or Park. Does anybody know what I can do at that connector to make the car think it is in Park. Also does anybody know what wire I could jump 12 volts to to pop the trunk as the key hasnít worked for years. Thanks, Norm.

The connector on the 96 shifter is for the Nuetral Safety switch as well as control for your backup lights....IIRC. Just check the stickies in the Interior Section for what each wire is for. When I did this swap in my 95 I had to pin this out and posted that info there as the 95 had 5 wires and the 96 shifter had 6 wires. If the guy that has the 95 still has the Column mounted N/S switch hooked up he should be able to just slide the switch in position of P or N.

For the Trunk lock, there should be a Yellow button in the Glove box to electrically open the trunk. Unless its a 9C1 which I believe the button is near the HL switch. Can't remember the last time I used a Key to open the trunk. Always just use the button or my remote.

Don't believe the Trunk release and the N/S Switch are tied together in the circuit. Check this site if you want to look for the schematics.

The trunk latch release safely mode kicks in when the car is driving. You can test it yourself. Have the car in drive and the trunk will not open by either the key fob or the glove compartment switch. I found the inside of the car wire to the truck latch and patched 12 volts to it and the trunk popped. One of those wiring diagrams identified the BLK/WHT wire. Thanks!

Jumper orange/black to black/white for the trunk. CAUTION! It will now work at all times, since it "thinks" car is park or neutral.

Jumper purple to yellow for starter. CAUTION! It will start in gear, since car "thinks" its in park or neutral

96 DCM 1st Mod. 12way Bonneville seats!
