(94 RMW) No Dash and No Tail Lights

I have read through probably a dozen posts, but it seems like every posted problem had a different resolution!! :/

So late last year I noticed that I had dash lights nor tail lights. (brake lights, turn signal and head lights all work fine, just not the tail lights when the lights are on)

Based on the posts, I pulled just about every fuse in the driver side panel and under hood and all fuses look good. I had the radio pulled and put it back in (based on someone's comments in another post). I pulled the Head Light Switch and Twilight Sentinel Switch to replace (Twilight Sentinel Switch looks to be unavailable from anywhere...).

I don't know when they stopped working since I only drive the car a couple of times a year.

Any suggestions on where to start looking?
Thanks
Brent

Replace the "chime" box, passenger side kick panel.

Tom - thanks for your reply. Can you expand on what a chime box is and how it relates to the issue?

Btw - anyone have a source for the twilight sentinel module and the black head light mounting piece (that screws into the headlight switch)? I always seem to snap them off in the switch. 👎

Somehow, the chime box is connected to your lighting and the twilight sentinel. Whenever you have lighting issues that don't make sense and you can't figure out; swap the chime box. They are known to have bad solder joints on the board.

Last year my 94 RMW, had lighting problems. Periodically, the tail lights would not shut off. Changed the box and it cured the problem.

Pull the kick panel off and the chime box is right there.

It may not be your problem, but there's a good chance it is. It's roughly 4" x 6" with one plug into it.

So I spent hours today pulling panels, checking ground connections and swapping parts and still have NO taillights nor Dash Lights!!!!

I started by installing a new Head Light Switch - Nothing.

I pulled the taillights and checked the bulbs, all good except one of the little bulbs, but replacing that didn't make a difference.

I swapped out (from my other Buick Roadmaster where everything works fine)
- a good Twilight Sentinel Switch (the dial under the head light switch),
- the green "chime box" (driver side foot well),
- the white box (passenger side foot well),
- checked the grounds at the "D-pillar" (driver side rear by tailgate)
- checked the grounds at the driver side foot well (under the carpet)

...still
- NO Dashboard Lights
- NO Tail Lights
- NO "annoying" dinging sound from the green box when the headlight switch is pulled and head lights are on.

I have interior lights, head lights, door lights, turn signals, brake lights...

I "probed" the sockets in the tail light, and all have power to both sides of the plugs (lighting up my probe, if that make sense), so would it be a ground some place?!

Help?!

FWIW, After trying googling the issue, I noticed that multiple other cars with the same issue have also didn't have the front running lights, so I checked and sure enough, no front running lights for me either. :/

So, with the knob half way pulled out (for the running lights), I have...
- No Dash lights
- No front or rear running lights

With the knob pulled all the way out, I have head lights, still no Dash or Tail Lights.

...anyone have any other suggestions?

I got a Haynes manual and tried to look at the wiring section but left me lost as to what to look for?

I guess im confused as to why the bulbs have power but not lighting and has left me guessing its a ground some place? (Per prior reply above) i checked the ground in the rear cargo area and the ground in the driver side foot area and they looked fine.

Suggestions?!

I just went out and started probing grounds and have power (probe light) on...
- the metal part of headlight switch
- the ground area in footwell
- AND when i hook the probe from neg bat term to the ground bolt a ft from battery it lights up!!!

So im guessing that some power cable some place is touching the body?!

A couple years ago a replaced the starter and since have had battery drains, couple it be the main starter cable or a bsd starter?

...alright forget the probe testing bc i think i was getting wrong readings.

I got a new volt meter and started poking around. I have no volts at the tail light fuse. No volts at tail lights either as expected. I looking at the wiring at the back of the Haynes manual, and have 12 volts at the red wire going into head light switch, good. I am not getting anything at yellow (inst panel lights) or at brown (tail light) when it should, so for grins i pulled the plugs off the head light switch and ran a hard wire from red to yellow, dash lights up!! I touched the brown, tail lights lit up!!

Sooo, this is a new head light switch. Is there something in the twilight sential that would be feeding into switch that would stop current from flowing?!?! I wouldnt think so, but am confused.

I hate spending another $25 bucks on another switch.

What do you all think?
