1966 console wiring

I have a 66 SS with console. there is a light on the back end of the console and I got all the wiring figured out except...... how is the lid switch wired in and to what???. the switch is broken for sure. so a few things. What does that little black push button switch operate. There is a larger hole just beside that black switch, I wonder if that is supposed to be another light to light up the inside of the console. there is no light there just a hole. If anyone knows please help.

Thanks everyone

Well, where to start?
-You went through all the trouble to sign up to a forum for last gen B/D-bodies to make your very first ever post regarding a '66 anything?
-You made your first ever post something besides introducing yourself?
-I'm not sure, but weren't there other models with SS trim that year besides the Caprice? If that's even the one you're asking about?

You might luck out and someone here knows mid-'60's console lighting.

As you now know, this Forum may not get you answers you need for your '66 car.

Couple of suggestions though....

1 Try and Google a search for a Forum that may cater to your year/make/model.

2 do an online search for wiring schematics and maybe you'll get lucky and find something (schematic) already online.

3 also search online for companies that sell a complete set of wiring schematics for various cars. For example, I found a company that sold a electronic (PDF) of my 95 Caprice and purchased that file from them. Very complete document and think it was only about $10 or so.

4 Check with companies like Year One that sell parts for a lot of these early cars. They may already have something you could buy and/or their techs are usually very familiar with these cars they support and may be able to offer advice or another person/company to contact.

================================================== =============

'95 Caprice SS conversion - Bonny Buckets - 96 Column, Shifter and Console - 3.73 Gear and Herter tune - Z/28 Cluster - Blazer OH Console - Green/Pink bushings - Chromed Impala Wheels - Eibach Springs and Bilstein Shocks - Corvette Engine Dress - the list goes on and still more to do...it never ends.

You did fail to make a proper introduction in you first post and this forum is for later model Impalas and Caprices. I thought that you had seen the Impala SS and you had the idea this was the place to be for your car. However, since you're here lets see if we can help. I don't know where you live but in my town the library has old Chiltons & Mitchells on the shelves. Some are reference but they have copiers. Also as 4DoorSS said check the internet. I wish I could be more helpful to you. I did some head scratching thinking back that far though.
Good Luck,

Unless the OP's got a tri-9, he mighta been scared off. But answering the patchwork of questions is fun anyway:

If you're asking all this about an Impala SS in the first place, then it may be similar to a Chevelle which I recall had a clock in the console. Either using that "always hot", or another "key on hot" running along side it would have run to your 'broken' switch. Not very complicated.

The aforementioned always hot or KO hot is energized by closing the switch circuit when the box lid opens. Not very complicated.

The length of wire running from the 'broken' switch might indicate what the distance is to what it operated. Unless the hole is access for a console mount screw then it's likely for a light, especially if it's right nearby a switch that looks like it's activated by the lid being opened.

And times 1 million on the library. But as 4Door- suggested, I was amazed what popped up for images with just "1966 Chevy Console Light" hahaha
