Z28 cluster odometer went out

I haven't looked into yet due to lack of time but anyone else have their odometer stop rolling?
Any leads on this would be helpful. Everything else works, speedometer, tachometer, etc...just the odometer stopped rolling.
Reset the trip odometer and it too stays at 0.

This suggests that your electrical connections into the cluster are OK. I think a "new" cluster is in your future.

If you have nothing to lose you could take it apart and check for something stuck in the motor worm gear or bad solder. It is very hard for the average person to trouble shoot the speedometer/odometer as it is hard to simulate the VSS signal.

Search for the thread that shows how to "correct" mileage on the odometer it may have some pictures to help you.

I would say check that your VSS signal is accurate... May require using specialized test equipment but insure that the wire is intact. Seems like I remember you have to run the wire to the coil to get the speed and possibly this wire is bad in your car.

Good VSS=Working Speedometer

As the Z28 has only one instrument ground connection (Caprice has two) ground problems with some parts working but not others do not make sense as a wiring problem. Might be worth a check. Caprice right plug C2 A6 to cluster D8.

I still expect the issue is inside the cluster not a input (car) wiring problem.

I'm guessing the VSS signal is good if the speedo works, only the odometer and trip odometer quit rolling. Now that i've seen a couple responses it makes sense that it must be an internal cluster issue. Thanks guys.

If you had the mileage set on the cluster, it's been apart. That would probably be the cause of the problem. Just take it out, get the back off, and pull the odo mech to see if something is out of the ordinary.

Old cars, just like classic rock... 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s!

Usually when a mechanical odo stops the drive and driven gear that turn the number barrels, have gotten out of alignment.Gotta take it apart and look for a small retaining clip on end of shaft.May have fallen off.
