FWIW, my factory 140A alternator put out 174A at 2000 rpm when tested at an electrical shop.

After digging through a lot of alternator parts catalogs, there are the standard 70A diodes inside the heat sinks (6 of them, capable of supporting 140A continuous total) or you can upgrade to the 100A diodes (200A total continuous output). I've seen updated windings that fit in the CS144 housing but I don't know if they're necessary for 200A operation or for when you go beyond 200A.

Well I diagnosed my primary fan not working and it turns out the motor has failed. Installed a new AC Delco motor this afternoon and rechecked alternator amp output, with the headlights on (lo beam), electric waterpump, primary and secondary dart fan running and stereo on its idles and is putting out 102 amps. I forgot to check with the hi beams on but doesnt really matter to me since I already know once the 1000 watt amplifier is working I'll be under powered with the factory 140 amp alternator.

I'm not looking to break the bank on a mechman 250 amp alternator for $600 so not sure what I'm going to do just yet. I'll probably wait until I finish up the complete stereo install before I address the alternator issue but other than seeing about having mine built for more amps or spending the BIG $$$ any other suggestions?

I think I've decided that I'm going to buy a Powermaster 200 amp unit, Amazon has it for $280.
