Question

I received my election ballot in the mail today for the Region 5 Director. If I recall correctly didn't we just have elections and the Directors were announced for the 2003-04 term at the BoD meeting in Florida. Why are we having elections already, is someone stepping down? I really don't feel comfortable with sending the ballot back in reason being as follows. There is only one name on the ballot, Dennis Wishon. I have no idea who this person is or what they are capable of doing for our region. I don't have anything against him, Ijust have heard nothing about him.
The question is that how and who selects people for the nominations of club officers? I have no intentions of attempting to run for any office positions right now, just concerned. Out of all of the people that are members of ISSCA in Region 5, surely we can find more than one person to nominate. I don't recall seeing anything in the magazine about upcoming elections, it may have been in there, but I was to busy looking at theeye candy. Can more information be given on when the elections will take place so that we can put in nominations. This way we can have more than one person to pick from.
With only one person on the ballet, I know it will make no difference wether I send mine in or not.
I think we should have access to information about the nominees than just their name. This way we as members can make a better decision on who we want in office.

The Directors from each region have staggered terms. Thus, the reason for the elections.

yup, and all the info on how directors are nominated is at the goissca.org web site.

One reason it's hard to find people to serve as Directors is because it is a possition of service, and not of glory.

To all the ISSCA directors and officers, hats off to you. Thank you for your sometimes thankless service.

IMHO everyone should serve at least one term as a director for their region and those that have overly critical views of ISSCA and their events should serve 2.

My regards to all involved behind the scenes as well as my utmost appreciation to Harvey, Chris, Ray, and everyone else who does the day-to-day to keep ISSCA running as a well-oiled machine.

That is what I am looking for. Thank you for posting your resume for all of Region 8 and ISSCA to see. I am not trying to start confusion, I just would like to see more info from the nominee. I would also like to have a selection of nominees to chose from.

Southern Comfort,

You or others may not know the person (or persons) in your region who is up for election, true. The observation you've made is valid--and I'll be more than happy to support action to see that biographies for Directors and Director candidates are posted somewhere on the ISSCA website, whether the candidate is new or running for re-election. In this particular case, you can drop the candidate an e-mail and ask for some information, if that will help you.

One of the concerns in this process is also to realize that not everyone gets their information from the ISSCA website or this Forum, but it is a good idea to make more information on candidates part of the process leading up to each member marking and returning their ballot.

As far as having multiple choices on the ballot, where was your own nomination form for this election cycle? I don't mean to throw it back in your face, by any means, but my point is that it is not always a given that people can or want to step up to the plate. Your interest is noteworthy and it would be good if more people showed the same interest and asked similar questions as you have. Don't sell yourself short--the Board needs people with ideas, energy, and the ability to work with others as a group--among other attributes. Just looking at your car, you clearly have alot going on that could easily translate into serving in a Director spot to help lead ISSCA into the future. So, keep that in mind next time elections are being talked about--once a year, like clockwork!

As expressed in my first post (first three lines)I didnt realize it was election time. I knew the officers had been announced during the BoD meeting earlier this year. I didnt realize the terms were only a year long. I would be glad to be nominated but due to military commitments concerning deployments the last two years it wouldnt be feasible right now.

Southern Comfort ,Actually the terms are two(2) years in length. That way you elect only one (1) new Director and have a "Veteran " Director in place.
