Although I'm exhausted, this event was just the vacation that I needed to get my mind off work. I loved the idea of it being shortened to 2 days (or so I thought, next time I'll arrive Thursday night and make it 3 days), but in that short time I never once thought of work!

The racing, for me, was better at this event than any other ISSCA Nats. I did everything and got plenty of runs. Having SCCA run the Autocross was a brilliant idea and it ran flawlessly! The Road coarse was my favorite event even though it was ridiculously hot. The practice runs that we made in the morning session were the highlight for me. I knew not to expect more than 1 timed run, but I never expected to be afforded what was easily 20 times the amount of practice that we'd ever gotten before. I had to park the car to let it cool several times.

I also think that we, ISSCA that is, are in great shape with respect to track relations at Gateway. Dealing with tracks can be like begging for sex. But Tim at Gateway seemed to treat us like family. Way to go Grail for not only organizing a great event, but you've outdone yourself with the schmoozing of the track staff!

I was pleasantly surprised at the way the drags were run. I was a bit confused at first, but once it got going and I figured out how things were being run I was able to relax and enjoy it more than any other ISSCA Nats. I didn't feel the sense of hurry up and wait like we have at previous events.

In fact, that point needs to be underscored here. This was a two-day event were I NEVER felt rushed (except at 6:30am, oof). Further more, by having this event at the same venue year after year, I think people are going to get more comfortable with the schedule and the pace will feel right to everyone.

Now for the bad, I should have volunteered a bit more this year. I only helped out at the road coarse, and I enjoyed doing it. I'll try and help out more next year. Not the bad you expected? Well, let's just say I temper my complaints after proper introspection!

Thanks to all, Rick, Heather, All of Grail (Great Racers and Impala Lovers), Todd, Larry (Perhaps I can judge next year), Paul, Bob, Nabby Bobby, Karl and all the rest I'm forgetting to mention. Keep up the great work!

****, I still can't do this right!! I was responing to Stumpy's statement:

Stumpy,

Don't ever say "only" when it is used regarding "volunteer!"

Lack of a corner worker would have been just as bad as having another "track spill!" It was really important to the overall running of the event, and not something to be slighted. No-one will have to volunteer for more than one duty if the number of volunteers keeps growing.

Thanks, really........you helped a lot!

Was my first Nationals and I thought things went pretty well especially for their first time trying to cram it all in one weekend, and I am sure they will learn something and do it even better next year. This was a huge amount of stuff to fit in such a short time for so many participants.
Only complaint I have would be the weather but I don't think ISSCA, GRAIL, Gateway etc. can be held accountable for that . If not for that scraggly little oak we shared with SSonic and family for shade I would be one crispy critter.

I too had a great time at my first nats, and plan on attending again next year. Like said above, the only complaint would have to be the weather. It would have been nicer imo to have another day or 2, but I understand under the circumstances it just couldn't be done. That said, with cramming all that stuff into 2 days, they pulled it off well, and I had a blast. Next year I'll actually bring MY car, lol. It was nice to meet some people I've been talking with over the years and put faces to screen names and cars. I've got over 1200 pics to sort through, but I'll try and get em posted up soon!

This just shows the only opinions posted should be your own.

Things went remarkable well despite all the time pressures. For folks volunteering there was no time to enjoy the event or spend enough time socializing. The car show should be held on a separate day from racing. This way we can all enjoy the cars instead of trying to catch a glimpse of them being judged or running around the track.

For anyone racing you need to replace those OEM hose clamps with aftermarket screw type clamps. The road course got held up twice because radiator hoses slipped off and made a mess of the track. This was not the only hold up for road racing but it cost about about 1.5 hours of track time for the clean ups.

Autocross was conducted without a hitch despite the field being divided into 3 different to accomodate the drag racers. Drag racing went smoothly, as usual.

A great time was has had by all and the event was a huge success. I can't wait until next year.
