Moog Springs

I'm trying to figure out which springs to use on my 96 RMS. I'm looking to lower the car about an inch, maybe an inch and a half compared to stock. In other words, about the same height as a stock Impala SS. I don't want to scrape when going over parking lot speed bumps, etc.

I'm sure someone is going to answer "look for some used SS springs". I know they're heavier duty than my wimpy RM springs, but do they also wear out? I don't mind if they sit a bit lower than when the donor SS was new, but do they still "suspend" the car effectively?

I've also seen several different PN Moog springs discussed on this and other forums, but I haven't been able to figure out definitive part numbers that will lower my RMS 1 to 1.5 inches. The price for Moog springs seems pretty reasonable and I've had great experiences using their products on other cars.

Can anyone advise me on some Moog PNs that will do what I'm looking for without cutting coils?

Not 100% sure what your stock ride height is, only book I have is for '94, and it lists 4 diff heights for Buick sedan depending on suspension code.

I just installed new springs in my '94 wagon.
In front it's ~1" lower vs. stock ride height spec. However it will probably settle a little more?

I used the Moog 80098 front springs and VERY pleased with height & ride.
It was lowered, so I actually raised it ~2" from where it was.

The stock springs that are currently on the car are pretty worn out, so the 80098s will proabably raise my front, too. This is one of the part #s I've read about and seem like a good choice for me, too.

It's the rears that are all over the place. I'd like the stance to be as level as possible. Some people like some "rake", which looks cool, but it's not what I'm after.

I'm tempted to go with Eibach or Hotchkis. Both are supposed to have a great ride, but after denting the hell out of some brand new long tube headers on a lowered Trans Am I used to have, I've gotten a little paranoid. I ran over a speed bump that was a little higher than the others in a mall parking lot about an hour after I got the car out of the muffler shop! It dented both headers pretty good and I always wondered how much it affected the engine.

No, I seriously doubt 80098 springs would raise it if your springs are stock.
I had Hotchkis lowering springs in there so it was ~3" lower than stock height.

Find someone who has height specs. for '96, and measure yours to see where you're at.

I have the dreaded RM "spring sag". The stock springs are so flimsy, they're "self-lowering" over time. They're not quite on the bumpstops, but close. Before I changed out the shocks, I could run over a paperclip and bottom out. Then it would bounce up and down for about a mile before it settled. I read on another thread that installing used SS springs in place of worn (over 100,000 miles) stock springs would probably RAISE most RMs about an inch.

I'm going to measure my car today. I actually like how it sits right now. I just need firmer springs that actually work, instead of the four Slinkys I have now.

To be honest, I should probably go with the Eibachs and just be done with it. They're not insanely low and I can easily install air springs in the back for when I'm hauling stuff. They're only about $150 dollars more than four Moog springs, which isn't insignificant, but I won't have to experiment with different springs to get the stance correct. I'll just have to wait a little longer to get 4 18x8 Ridler 695s in gray.
