Horn woes (and fix...kinda)

About year ago I acquired 95 wagon, mostly in good shape. On list of things that were inop was horn. So the chase started...first in line was replacing the blown fuse, which promptly blew again. Ok, so we have a short. Disconnected the horns, put a new fuse - this one held. Ok, so we have a short in one of the horns. Put a test light on the horn circuit - it showed permanently closed. Sigh..that means the horn button in airbag module is fused. I already had one of the "Clown-horns" from Horrible Freight on hand, so I tossed that on - sure enough, it was constantly on, no matter how much I "massaged" the steering wheel to unstuck the horn ring. And you probably know by now that those pretty much unobtanium, with junkyard being the only source. I didnt liked the idea of replacing the old worn-out part with a part that is similarly worn. So now what. I was debating getting one of those external horn buttons, but I couldnt find anything that wouldnt be intrusive and well, ugly. So after brainstorming a bit I decided on adding this:

Its basically a motorcycle horn button - and it works like a charm! I did have to cut out a bit of the steering wheel plastic to make it fit, but Im very pleased how it turned out. Its not as accessible as a stock location, but its more sensitive and "tactile" (it has the "click" feel to it). And being OCD, I had to add another one on the left side as well (plus redundancy is always good!)

Horns...another headache

So at first I had this on. Its $13 from HF...and its not worth the money. It *does* work, but its very wimpy. I had them behind the bumper for a couple weeks and drivers in Tampa were simply ignoring me. I even relocated them so the horns were sticking under the bumper, facing the traffic - still no respect.

And than one rainy night, I discovered that 18g speaker wire was NOT designed for that kind of amperage:

Final solution: found couple horns from Astro van at local junkyard. Decided to place them in similar location where Astro van's horn normally reside (in front of the radiator instead of stock RM location in the fender). Managed to get stock wire harness to play nice and reach to designated location. Plug & Play with Astro horns. Some plastic wrap later, it almost look it came like that from the factory About 20K miles later - everything still works, with the best part - its LOUD

I'd love to have horns that, while still being technically legal in NYC and other 'draconian' locales, are optimised and placed in such a way that using the horns causes people nearby to recoil.
Is the Mercedes-Benz' 600 horn doable?

I installed the horns from a RMS or FWB in my car. The left horns are the same, but there are right side horns as well with different notes. It doubles the volume, and adds two notes.

You could even add/include the Astro horns for even more volume. A single green wire added to the harness for each set of wires will power them.

The Roadmaster has a 25 Amp fuse on a 30 Amp relay. The four horns pretty much max out this circuit. Like the fans and the headlights GM undersized the wire(16ga for 25A?). If you want more out of what you have you might notice a difference with 12ga wire. If you are adding the second set to a caprice at least use the heavy gauge on what you add. As ZratedDog found out the circuit is close to melting.

ZratedDog can you post a picture of the switch you used?

Not much to add here technically, just chiming in that the 4-note set-up is loud enough to be useful when needed without giving people a heart attack. If the wiring, connectors, and relay are all good, it sounds very nice. I think you'll like it. Lay on it in a tunnel and you'd think it's a locomotive. Seems about right.
