1996 Cruise Control Module wanted!

Hi,
my dear 1996 RMW is suffering from a recently departed Cruise Control Module.
I was shocked to find out that this part does not seem to be available any more anywhere.
I worked through the flow chart in the shop manual to find out what could be the cause for my no longer engaging CC - and at the end it showed that the CC module must be the cause :-(

Does anybody have a working module for sale, or can guide me to somebody who could have one?
I really hate driving without CC...

Its part #25140862 and was used in 1996 Roadmasters, Cadillac Fleetwoods, Impala SS und Caprice. Earlier years wont work unfortunately.

Im located in Europe - and its completely impossible to find over here.

thanks in advance for any leads!
regards,
Gerald

take the top off, the gear may be stripped. Maybe you have some broke solder joints...
Also, I have a 96 caprice, I used a 95 roadmaster cruise control by changing the cable.

To change the cable, disconnect the inner cable from the throttle body, then disconnect the outer jacket from the cruise module. Pull the outer jacket out of the cruise module, by disconnecing it from the throttle body you can pull enough slack through to get to where the cable and strap hook together.

They used these in many things, I think the cable was the difference. maybe the firmware too but me thinks your electronics are good.

Thanks for your replies!
Modules were offered from members on this excellent forum. I will happily buy from them.

Turbochris - thanks for your explanation!
If I only want to change the module and leave the cable in there - how would I have to do that?
How do I disconnect the cable from the module?
Do I also have to disconnect it on the throttle body or is there an easier way to disconnect it at the module only?
I had the module open and had no idea on how I could disconnect the cable ...

@Fred Kiehl - thanks for your offer! I cant see your message unfortunately?

There is a large black plastic clip at the end of the cable at the CC unit. You can depress both sides of it simultaneously, and the cable shroud will come out of the unit. I usually use a thin channel-lock pliers. The cable itself has flexible end with a hook on it, that can be detached from the internals of the unit. You do not have to remove the cable from the car. Installation requires you to hook the cable to the replacement unit, and insert the shroud end into the case until it clicks into place.

If you are interested in a CC unit, I can ship one for $80USD plus $30USD shipping. My paypal is [email protected]. I believe all of the CC units are the same except for the cable, but I can get a 96 unit if you are not confident in my assessment.

Hi Fred,
Thanks a lot for your description. Sounds like its not a big deal to replace the module!
I'm located in Austria/Europe - would the $30 cover shipping to Austria?

Thanks!
Gerald

Thanks again for all your kind help and the offers to send me some of your used units. 1slow96 was the first one who offered to send me a unit and it arrived today here in Europe.
I quickly bolted it in and now have perfectly working CC again!
Im really happy and hope that this unit will have a long life ;-)

Thanks again to everybody here! Great group of people!

Cruise control box

Glad it worked out. It was my first experience with international shipping/customs. It wasn't that bad, though it took a while for
you to receive it. Happy to help, many of the parts I've accumulated
over the past 16 years aren't improving anyone's life (not even mine)
just sitting on shelves in my basement.
