Rear anti-sway bar

Will 94 Fleetwood lower control arms and anti-sway bar fit a 94 Roadmaster?

Short Answer - Most Likely Yes

Well, the Cadillac and Chevy interchange, and I can't imagine Buick altering their fitment from the other models for no good reason. So, while I have not done it myself I'm going to deduce YES.

The real reason for my post is to ask why. The FWB front and rear bars were quite flimsy compared to the SS bars I replaced them with. And for reference, I run double SS bars on the rear.

Only in the event that your RM currently has NO bars and you have the Fleetwood parts free then you'll see a little improvement I guess. I'd personally hold out at least for a set of old SS bars for legitimate handling improvements.

Plus, if going to the trouble to remove rear LCAs then I would never replace them with more OEM units. Definitely a call for aftermarket upgrade there.

That is it, my Roadmaster has no rear anti-sway bar at all. And the control arms are open, not boxed. Every Roadmaster I have looked under have the bar, but for some reason mine does not.

I do not have the money to upgrade to any after market parts. I have to go the cheap route. And even SS parts bring a premium over Fleetwood or Roadmaster parts. And I just happen to have a line on a Fleetwood setup.

Any rear bar, is better than none, but 9C1 / SS would be preferable, of course; GM pretty much got the rear spring & stiffness rates right.

I guess my main concern was the lower control arms, as the Fleetwood has a longer wheelbase, I thought there was a possibility the control arms might be different.

Yeah, I do not know why my RML does not have the rear bar. It also does not have load leveling. Maybe these both are part of the towing package?


Besides my 99 Aurora is my lean, mean cornering machine. I DO miss my 01 Caddy ETC. I want another someday. (and I would have to stiffen up its suspension, it was actually more "floaty" than the Roadmaster is).

The difference in wheelbase is in the frame.

Well let me tell you a 7/8" Fleetwood anti-sway bar is a hell of a lot better than no anti-sway bar at all. I installed it yesterday and it is quite an improvement. I do not know why ALL GM cars do not automatically come with these. The 1964 442s did, but not the 65 GranSport. I have put them in all the 1964-1972 A bodies I have even owned.

Tell us more about the double SS bars, also pics if possible. This intrigues me as I ran a double front bar on an old Honda once to good effect.

Compared to my Impala SS the Fleetwood was still a plowing hog even after installing Bilsteins and old SS springs all around. Then, as expected, I got noticeably flatter handling after swapping out the stock Fleetwood front and rear bars with the set I had left from upgrading my SS. But, it still plowed more than I like.

So, I stuck on the Fleetwood rear bar added to the SS already installed just using longer bolts and nuts as stand-offs. That resulted in absolutely no change as far as I could tell from just the SS unit alone. So, I bought another SS rear bar and stuck it on.

It's ALMOST too much oversteer. I said almost. Very spirited and more responsive steering as a result. The only downside is you can also get into trouble as the tail constantly wants to take the lead around turns.

I did this over 10 years ago as a cheap experiment, and there are likely more legitimate handling upgrade options considering the retail aftermarket swaybar suppliers, either then or probably after that time.

A couple of shots as requested, taken for other reasons but also giving a reference to the double bars. One was a testfit of the 315s off my SS, and the other is the exhaust getting installed.
