Hello everyone. This morning I was pulling into traffic and had to get on it a little bit, not too heavy but more than usual. Once I hit about 3500 RPM the car died and would not re start. It turns over just fine, fuel pump is working great, but no start. I got it towed home and started checking thing out. Pulled a plug to check for spark, nothing. Then I noticed the smaller vent tube from the Opti was just hanging there, it had somehow come off. Could I have blown up the Opti by driving around like this? What other things should I check before I replace the Opti? Thanks in advance for any help, Matt
vent tube is for venting condensation, which can damage the opti overtime.
my question is how do you know the FP is working, just because it turns on does not mean you’re getting the proper pressure needed to keep the motor running.
No spark there either. Im by myself right now so I pulled the wire and placed it so it was about 1/4" away from the valve cover. Thats should've worked right?
what i did was opened the hood, looked through the gap at the back of the hood, routed the spark plug wire to the abs line in a way i could see it from the driver seat.
I know that I replaced both maybe 1 1/2 years ago, they fixed the no start problem last time. But they were replaced with crappy Auto Zone parts. I should also mention that this happened about a month ago but was able to restart while I was still rolling. Took it out of gear and turned the key, all was good. Happened when I was getting on it then too.
no spark is no spark, if the parts are new, still no spark.
if your not getting spark at the coil, it can be the opti, coil, icm and ecu...thats it. (beyond a bad wire or electrical system but we will assume these are good)
so as of right now we need to test a known working coil/icm
That has not been my experience. I keep a spare coil/ICM/heatsink assembly in the car with me as it takes up little space, and I've had both a coil and two ICMs die on me, but never an opti. Also keep a deepwell and a ratchet with you and you can swap out the coil assembly on the road.
