All I gotta say is that I needed to do this a LOOONG time ago. My box blew out the pitman arm seal three times already. Everytime it did it I kept saying to myself its was time t replace the box but everytime I called for the imapla box I kept getting asked if it was the 28 spline box or the 32 spline box. so kept puting it off. Last week i noticed the p/s pump was whining a bit so I check the fluid and it was low, but I didn't see the leak. This morning I jumped int the car and the pump was whining again when I got to work i checked it and sure enough the box was leaking again from the pitman arm. After doing some home I found out that the caddy bos would of costed 170.00 but the guy had the impala one for 110.00. So i did some digging and found out the our cars have a 32 spline box and ordered the impala one.

The steering feels so nice now. No slop at all... So the moral of the story is that the fleetwoods are 32 spline incase you decide to do this and get asked the spline question...

Thanks Eddie, 32.

I do believe the SS ratio is quicker than the FWD too, eh? Does the SS box got all the Variable Assist glop on it? Or did you just trash all that stuff and lose the unnerving "Sweeping Turn Jerkover" problem for good?

it is a plain old steering box, no variable assist. i've got one for my caddy too, i have the same "nice long sweeping curve holy hell my car just jerked itself into the guardrail" feeling too.

i think the ss/9c1 are the same ratio but don't quote me as my source was the junkyard interchange manual. i have a 9c1 box and its ~2.5 turns lock to lock and my caddy box is between 4 and 5.

Good to know for future purposes. The ratio and feel of my '95 is COMPLETELY different than either the '93 FWB or '92 Roadie, and doesn't have the curve jerk they sometimes do, but if any ever need replaced it won't be with another of the same.

The Variable assist still works. But the steering still feels nice. Definately firmer than stock. But I didn't feel the jerk... The variable assist is not in the box. Its simply a restrictor valve attached to the pump then the p/s line goes to it.

Thanks guys, my wife started complaining of the steering issue and I must say it is unnerving when it did it for me. Car only has 55K on it too. New Impala box next week.
