A couple of questions

How does this point system work I see sometimes - "A 100 point car"
Who decide this?

What cost can I expect regarding domestic shipping. Fr ex. If I want to ship a car from Arizona to Florida. Is there a mileage cost so I can do my own calculations?

<SNIP>
A '100 point car' would mean it's been shown in a concourse car show where it was judged on authenticity, fit and finish. In such a show, one will usually start with the full point award and the judges will start taking away points based on what they see, and what the rules of the show dictate. So if the maximum points you can make is 100, you start the judging with 100 points, and the judges will start taking away points. A little dirt in the wheel wells? Take away 5 points. Does that stock-class car have aftermarket wheels? Take away another 5 points. The car now has 90 points in it's score, and the judges continue until they're done looking at the car and subtracting points.

For a car that's for sale? Most of the time, the seller picks this number. And most of the time, you can usually start knocking points off within a couple of minutes of looking at the car in person. If the seller says it's a 100-points car, he/she thinks it's perfect as it rolled off the assembly line. Careful examination of the pictures, or better yet, of the car in person will hopefully reveal that the seller was right, or you find obvious issues in the photo.

I'd be wary of a car that's a '100-points' car and the seller starts listing replaced or 'upgraded' parts.

Same with 'MINT'. This purports the car is in the same condition as the day it rolled off the assembly line, otherwise 'minted', as with a coin.

How's the hunt going?

Just curious: Are there many alterations required registering an 'older' ('70-'90s) American car overseas to comply with differing lighting/safety standards there? Or, are they all 'grandfathered' in without changes?

Until others contribute leads or personal experiences I thought to throw in a few links that may benefit general intel on the subject:

One advertises both national and international shipping. Outside of personal reference, we have Better Business Bureau (BBB) that you can find out complaints of a member company. It's only the first level of investigating firms though.

Thanks a lot for the links. The hunt is going slow. I Always find something wrong with the car and if I do find a real nice one it´s located in the wrong state.
As I wrote I have a good reliable contackt in Florida who shipped alot of cars to Sweden and I trust him 100%. Start to deal with someone I don´t know is a risk I´m not that willing to take.

If I had the time and money I would just go over and fix it myself

Got a call from a guy in Stockholm this morning. He wanted to sell me a 94 Fleetwood, gold with 240.000km on the meter. Wrong color and way too many miles.

But...the hunt is half the fun
