can anyone shed any light into how much i'm gonna have to cut away in that radio space to fit in a 7" tft screen? i would figure that i would just have to cut out some of the dash plastic cover and nothing out of the radio compartment itself. am i right or wrong? or does anyone have an idea of a better spot, maybe a custom console to fit the screen? someone help, i just put a deposit on da screen & player. i want to have it in by early july.

Look at the thread directly below this one. I think it's titled "they are ready".

Looks to me like he's talking about mounting a screen, not installing one of those stupid flip-out screen decks.

I've seen pictures of a dash with a screen in where the radio is, but it wasn't widescreen. I'd imagine that would be a bit of a project if it'd even fit. My preference would be to put it in a custom floor console, right up where the ashtray is. That way, other people on the road would be less likely to see it too.
Here's the picture I mentioned earlier. Please don't display in the thread to save bandwidth.

I'm in the process of looking fo a 10" or 12" raw monitor to put there & make a drop down console below the dash for my radio and climate controls.

thats a straight up tv....

i like the drop down console idea, but tell me what yall think about this, this was my idea for the roadmaster, but money didnt permit and then...the accident

anyways, i was gonna put a 7 or 8 inch touchscreen in place of the stereo (1),

in the trunk or somewhere hidden i was gonna build a mid-tier computer, bout 2.5Ghz with huge storage capabilities, like 200 or so gigabytes, lotsa ram a good vid and sound card, not a gaming behemoth but fast enough to play dvds and music videos and music.

i was gonna run the ide cable to the cd/dvd drive all the way to the glove box and put that in there along with a usb port for hookin up the digital camera/i-pod or watever else

in the cup holder/armrest (yall know wat im talkin bout) i was gonna put another touch screen at a slight angle (2)

i was maybe gonna have a flip down on the headliner (3) or maybe two.

so the plan was:

winamp is fully skinnable, and with photoshop skills, you can make some awesome skins and itll have the exact look you want, you can control button placement color shape size everything. so i was gonna skin winamp with some big nice buttons and maybe a woodgrain style interface like i did for this mixvibes skin then, screen 2 was gonna be the virtual keyboard, which i discovered a few years ago when mom got mad cause i was always online so she took my keyboard, but not the mouse i had to click out everything i wanted to type but with a touchscreen theres no clickin involved mwahaha, (btw the keyboard comes in handy when searchin for specific songs in your winamp playlist)

screens 3 and 4 were gonna display the music videos or dvds or watever was playing at the time

yea, with all that i would coem to believe that you are off your horse, big time. i hope you have one hell of an alarm, and a gun permit with license to carry too. btu anyways, your idea sounds real good. i was thinkin 7" touch screen in the dash(not a flip out), but my friend at best buy said i would have to do alot of cutting to get one to fit, so would he if he did it for me in the installation bay. he said the space for the radio is a din and a half, not double din, so i should try and go with a 6.5" monitor, and fab up some console to hide the dvd player and playstation. anyways, my idea was not as elaborate as yours, but i just wanted something original. all the caprices i've seen in philly have a flip out or flip down screen, not a screen in place of the radio. i just wanted to be the first. seems like originality has it's costs.

Look at the Pioneer AVIC-D1. Its a double din, with Nav all in one unit. The ONLY drawback is that it does not play DVD's in the unit. So hook up your PS2 and call it a day. This is the unit that I might be putting in my dash.

The D1 will not show video while moving. Either thy gyroscope or speed sense wire prevents that from happening. Pioneers new thing to prevent you from watching video.
