i'm thinking of cutting out the guts outta the ashtray and mounting the lcd so it can flip up when the tray is pulled out... and back down when the tray is closed. nice and stealth like.
or maybe pullling the ashtray out all together and having the screen flip down from under the lower dash.
anyone done this? pics?

looks nice! so, does it actually tuck away inside the ashtray when not in use?... or does it have to be hooked/unhooked from the bracket you made?
got another shot from the side, can't see how it's mounted.

thx man

Nice setup!
How did you get your box to stay in place? Did you bolt it down? I didnt have a problem with mine until the Hotchkis sways went in.

it can be done. I spec'd out a design for this, and even started cutting up an ashtray, before I decided to hold off on my plan so that I can research a newer idea I had. You can fit a 7 inch lcd at least, if you basically gut all the plastic out from the actual insides of the ashtray, and replace it. My design basically had a spring loaded LCD that would spring up as you pulled the tray out. The pivot point on the LCD was a little over an inch up from the bottom, so it was actually sunk into the tray a little bit when it was opened. The bottom of my LCD frame would hit a cushioned stopper when it got to be fully opened. As you close it, the lower dash would push on the LCD as the tray is closing, forcing it to fold flat. I also had a switch in there that would cut power to the screen when it was closed. Unfortunately, I'm not too good with metal, so I KNOW it looked better on paper than it would have if I had actually finished building it. I probably would've needed a LOT of bondo to pull it off.
