What would you recommend for an in car camcorder? I'm thinking something that would be mounted on the dash so I can see the viewfinder and adjust/zoom/etc while I'm working? What sort of mounting options are there?

I almost pulled a camcorder mount out of a wrecked Crown Dic today. It was screwed to the roof brace thru the headliner and it looked kinda homemade. I thought twice and decided I could build one better.

My thinking is a mount that uses the passenger side visor clip hole to mount to.
Is there any interest in something like this
if I can make them neat and relatively cheap?

I'm curious, what do you want to put a cam corder in your car, on your dash, for?

I would only use it at the track. Or cruising
the local college campus

I want mine for work. To record traffic stops and such I'm not as concerned for the mounting system as what is a good camcorder.

As far as a type of camera to get, I can tell you what problem I've had with them on gocarts. Vibration! Get one with a metal tri-pod mount (plastic one we had stripped out on first lap). Image Stabilization is another great camera option to get to control shake caused by engine vibration, bumps in the road, etc.

For mounting it, I would use a Camera ball head. A ball head is a 360 degree up/down left/right adjustable mount. It would mount to whatever you wanted with one screw and to the cameras tri-pod socket.

Just my $.02.
