camera in the trunk lock install

well cancer sucks so trying to post all the pics I can on here while I can share some things I have done or found over the last 18 years of owning 30 or so SS and caprices

so one of my favorites in my race car was a infared camera I installed in the key hole on the SS I wanted to retain the lock incase my 3 batteries dies lol cant happen but none the less I kept it
so this in the car with the built 4l60e built everything rear ina all forged 383 topped with LE top end and a big bottle of silly gas with a 200 shot this list goes on and on and on but
I got a top model clarion in dash I love as I can turn the camera on whenever I want to see ppl behind me and to see how much im ahead by lol

first things first need a radio single or double din that has a rear view back up cam hook up

if you run a single din or double din get a dash kit from Detail SS they are metal high quality construction and the single din I run relocates the AC to below the radio so screen doesn't block the Controls

double din is top notch too I got that in one of my cars I sold

I got a 25 dollar camera off ebay that had the night vision it had great reviews on sonicelectronix and I hooked it up first and saw the quality of day and night view

next was to relocate the trunk lock I took it out remove the trunk lock retainer might or might not have a rivet holding it in and remove the motor that pops the trunk a couple 10 mm bolts
also remove the tag light

the metal right below where the tag light is between the two grooves flat surface I took my metal hole saw kit and found one same size as hole in lid carefully drill it out mine was before I sprayed the car so I could afford to **** up
I cut out the notch for the lock with dremel and inserted my lock and reinserted the u shaped lock retainer

the long shaft that connects the trunk lock to the latch mechanism I cut off like 2 fingers with some metal cutters it sticks so far out inside the trunk here is a pic after the cutting

this has to be cut enough so the key turned the lock with ease after cut I reinstalled it was around 2 fingers don't go crazy cut a bit at a time the side with a lil hook goes in the key side when done it still could of been cut another 1" or so but functioned well with the right cutters it could be cut while assembled

so the lock is moved

to get my tag light back on correctly and flush I had to take a dremel with sand wheel attachment A **** hair off of it and reinstalled it this is the first junk yard light I tormented I had a brand new one I switched the dremel attachment to a round light grit sander wheel thos worked like a charm this one was cracked at screw holes and gasket was bad too I found when doing the LED light upgrades
SEE NOTCH I DID IN BOTTOM TAG LIGHT

Now for the camera I was installing the radio the ground wire trick relay to make radio think parking brake was on and my 3 sets of RCA wires I make my own video cable high grade wire and ends off dads truck fish the video wire of your choice want a 20' I think or so been a long time and brain cancer and 1000000 of seizures don't help be glad I took notes

so lets say 20' video cable fish it I found up to the camera easier big holes up by camera to get hands in
2 wires for the cameras power and ground feed

I grounded mine to the trunk latch mechanism but the holes have been covered over 3 times with stinger roadkill and my buddy painted the inside of the trunk lid as well so cant show this
could also ground it to the hinge by where the mercury switch is I added for alarm or factory trunk light mercury switch is
I just ordered a box of stinger roadkill black stealth version so I will open up the pocket behind the camera and get some rear shots when my brother is here and reseal with the gloss blass stinger stuff

Power well this is up to definitely FUSE IT you are running it in a moving object I wire tired and used the factory wire retainers where I could my power comes off the relay used to feed 12v to the remote feeds of all my amps and crossovers and special lights let me know if you need wiring help for spdt relays for turning on more than 2 devices by radio remote wire safely

the camera I got fit the hole almost I had to cut it a slight bit bigger but this was the reason I chose this camera of course it was ****ign made in china so it had dimensions listed in MM I went to harbor freight and got a digital caliber tool measured and found a camera based upon this also look for one that doesn't stick out far and that is the same diameter roughly as the hole
the one I got has a threaded base I opened up the trunk hole a little and pushed it in and there was a threaded nut that retains the camera so it sits about flush with trunk lid and I was able to install this trunk emblem over it with no issues note the factory emblem did work just as well but I liked this black one I got from street trends I think love Rachel she calls me twice a year to check on me and see what I need

Thank you for write up, I probably won't run a camera but instead shave it and relocate the lock to the bottom, hope you're doing well.
