LED upgrade

I'm wanting to replace the crappy, flickering, dim LED's in my wagon now with something that is actually bright and will last. There was a list with a few links for a wagon last year but some of those are discontinued. So, can someone post a link or part numbers needed for the following:

1.The front kickpanels
2.All four doors
3.Grab handle lights above the rear seat
4.Map lights
5.Rear cargo lights
6.License plate

Have you checked on ebay lately? There are a lot of "new" styles of light bulbs in LED format. The LEDs are getting brighter, and there is a greater variety of bulb styles. There is even a bulb for the wagon CHSL.

1991 OCC 461 (.030 over 454) BBC, 3.23 posi, flash to pass, drop spindles & springs, Impala rims, Hydroboost, Recaros, MOMO/wood SW w/QR, custom wood shift knob, Pioneer DEH P77DH
1992 OCC now with 5.7 tbi, DEH P77DH
For a parts list, check https://www.impalassforum.com/vBulle...ion-parts.html

It's been 5 or 6 years since I changed the instrument cluster lights over to LED. Those (currently installed) were somewhat lacking in brightness at only about 35 lumens. I think I'll replace those with these which bump the brightness up to 75 lumens. Wedge based miniature LED lights can range from around 10 and up to 350 lumens, so they've definitely increased the options over the past several years.

Fred I have and also checked the Superbright LED site. They have a vehicle application search function but I want to make sure I'm getting the correct bulbs. I plan to call them with my concerns but also wanted to see what you guys were using and how you like them and the longevity of them as well.

In this case...:

Superbright LED, using older variety which is great but not bright enough (hence the pending upgrade). All are still working perfectly. The longevity of an LED shouldn't be a concern at all. They last you long time.

I'll call and talk with them. I know the map lights are tiny but they list the 194 for the map, which can't be correct. And they don't list anything for the cargo area. But, they should be able to answer all of those concerns for me.
The LEDs I have now, one license plate light went out months ago and one map light flickers all the time, as does a kick panel light and the doors. I just want something that will last. Not to mention these aren't as bright as the stock bulbs.

Yes, the map lights, rear defrost and some other odd bulbs are specialty items that they should be able to cross ref.

If you're having a bulb totally out or flickering condition, you could check that the bulb is making good contact with the base. The bulb may very well be perfectly fine but for a poor connection. Soldering the bulb to the base is generally the cure for this. One of the selling points of LED's is their longevity.

Now that they're selling bulbs with the CREE technology, even in 194's, the brightness has gone up markedly. This is why I want to upgrade. The ones i have now were the brightest you could find then. Now they're closer to the bottom of the lot as far as brightness.

There is a member here that has interior kits and other LEDS for your car. His pricing is reasonable and all the bulbs are labeled for each item. Can't remember his name here but if you search the interior section you should find his thread. I got the lights from him for my 4 door lights, kick panel area, overhead, AC controls and the shift indicator.

Oh, sorry to hear that, mine seem to be working ok still. I did have one of the door bulbs (festoon?) that was flickering. It was just the metal cap on the end of the plastic housing was not tight against the wire lead of the LED array. When I pulled the bulb, the metal end just fell off. I kinda of flattened it a little so it fit tighter to the lead wire and pushed it back on.

If you find the type of bulb in there now, you should be able to cross reference the LED needed for that area and just order some from one of the sites out there. SuperbrightLED is one that has good info and options on their site so you can choose different brightnesses based on the number of LEDs per bulb and style.
