Console carpet

I have a Bravado console and I want to replace the carpet on it. The glue is holding on tight. I searched for several days on the web and here. I found one comment on it here on the forum. It said to use light heat and a scraper. I thought of using an oscillating tool and a little heat. Any thoughts before I start? Also I'm not sure about the glue to use after I get it off. I could only think of using the glue that is used for outdoor carpet. What about that? Any help here would be appreciated.

First Off-

-My first post this morning, so just a word be mindful of courage and dedication of those prompting today's holiday.

I searched a batch recently when recovering my pillar bolsters. Common vein of thinking is heat for removal and a variety of common solvents for the "typically used" spray adhesive. I shied away from heat, preferring just to lay parts in the sun a bit. Getting the carpets and pads off was not as much a trick as using paper towels laid on top and a spray bottle for the solvent (Acri-Solv in my case) to soak and pre-soften the glue.

As far as any power tool I'd be afraid that anything effective to tackle the usual nylon carpet backing might tear into the console plastic too.

For new adhesive I found 3M Super 99 is downright strong.

\'96SS SOB: SSRI, Herter Tune, Tri-Y II, , 3000 Edge, F/HO bars, METCO extendeds with CV MMC, Bilsteins, currently Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta (315/35 rear). Finally, wait for it... LT-4 knock module!
\'96FWB BUW-Butt Ugly White: PCMPerformance tune, HDFA w/ swissed filter, 1/2 SLP s.s. catback with H- and Flow Super 50s, oem opti rebuilt 3 times, SS Bars, METCO LCA, Airlift 1000, Monroe SS, PowerTrax No-Slip, CTS wheels with +1 rubber. Finally, yes again... LT-4 knock module!

After it warms up here this morning, I'll lay it out to heat up. I'll try to pull it some more. I looked for local places that might have the solvent you recommended. I couldn't find one. Also the Super 99 is not showing up. I found some 3M 98 adhesive that looks as if it's the ticket. It must be good stuff as it has a California Prop 65 warning.

What are you going to use for replacement carpet? From what I've read the original stuff is called lining carpet.

Success! I got the carpet off in three pieces just like the factory and now I have the templates. I did wind up using the oscillating tool with a plunge bit. Just let it cool every couple minutes. Cutting it off made me think of the people shearing sheep I used to sharpen blades for.

4x4 I got some carpet at O'Reilly's. It's Kraco but I may put vinyl with a foam backing instead. I'm just not sure. If you're looking for the carpet you mentioned you might try here.Upholstery for Cars, Boats, and Interiors | YourAutoTrim.com Hope this helps you out.

LOL yah that was a hoot - for 16 years. But time to retire that sig along with the grey FTSS which to a new home last year. I've got a new motto kicking around but waiting on exactly what to do with this new ugly white one I picked up.

I got my solvent and the adhesive locally, but they are advertised on here where I got my fabric: WLS Headliners - automotive inerterior products I botched the adhesive name as a poorly recalled mashup of Super 90 that I ultimately decided against, along with a leftover can of Super 77 I used on another headliner 11 years ago (still holding very well). The spray stuff on the site has multiple nozzles for custom patterns and comes out like a cottoncandy machine and sticky as snot.

Finally, good idea on the vibrating Dremel. I used that cleaning sheetgoods backing off underlayment for new tile bath. I was initially picturing an orbital sander/grinder sorry.

Well now. If I was perpetually offended and politically correct I'm sure I would find that old one offensive. However I'm not that thin skinned. BTW I noticed the delete on your first post after you got the new one.

Thanks for the heads up on that site. I might be doing the headliner on my mother in law's 05 Lesabre. Less that 13,000 on it and the thing is falling out.
