electric ac

My engine has a light knock when cold. I am assuming its done and want an ls engine now. I want to keep ac but I see the cross member has to be notched. so how about an electric ac compressor. yes I realize that will be harder on the electrical system but are there any options for this? Or would it be better to get out the side grinder? is there a remote possibility it would be less drag on the engine while it is on. ya know no actual compressor drag just alternator drag.

The LS engines with the truck FEAD often require the grinding of the AC compressor mount instead of the frame.
