The car's ok, 90% of them here with original owners are likely better. And also not worth $35k.

-GM engineers knew about RBTs?
-The spare wheel - I don't get it.

\'96SS SOB: SSRI, Herter Tune, Tri-Y II, , 3000 Edge, F/HO bars, METCO extendeds with CV MMC, Bilsteins, currently Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta (315/35 rear). Finally, wait for it... LT-4 knock module!
\'96FWB BUW-Butt Ugly White: PCMPerformance tune, HDFA w/ swissed filter, 1/2 SLP s.s. catback with H- and Flow Super 50s, oem opti rebuilt 3 times, SS Bars, METCO LCA, Airlift 1000, Monroe SS, PowerTrax No-Slip, CTS wheels with +1 rubber. Finally, yes again... LT-4 knock module!

For the love of god, the guy at Chevrolet who helped to bring the Impala SS to life is Jon Moss. Notice the lack of an "H". The eBay listing text makes this irritating mistake. Thankfully it doesn't refer to any Chevy Impallas or Cameros.

Couple of things:

* This is a Pre-Production 1994 car built on May 21st 1993. Production of 1994 Impala SS did not start till February 14th 1994.

* Looking at the VIN, this was built as a 1994 Caprice Classic LS B4U, Black exterior with Gray interior. Top of the line for a 1994 Caprice.

* Carfax shows it was exported to the United Arab Emirates in October of 1993. It was probably still in the original Caprice Classic LS configuration. Maybe for use as an autoshow car or press pool demonstrator?

* No WX3 code, and not built between 2-14-1994 and 12-13-1996, by the book this isn't a real Impala SS.

1. The original concept car had a red bow tie.
2. The spare is an aluminum Caprice wheel.
3. This car has a pedigree that cannot be duplicated, so whether 90% of them here that are still with their original owners are better is irrelevant.
4. Price, eh, probably too much, but who knows; tough value cars with GM "skunkworks" DNA.

Didn't these concept cars have bad titles too? As in never being able to be registered for road use.. Unless its dealer plated.

Car still works MOD

So was this built as a pre-production prototype where they were still figuring things out, a factory test mule, or just a pre-sales car built to generate interest in the new SS?

Auction listed it as Salvage Title. That doesn't exactly answer your question though.

That's pretty much the norm for any former concept car or mule from GM. Becuase of the use of non-production standard or outright custom fabricated parts, GM wants to cover their ass from anyone suing them for being injured or killed by a vehicle that may not meet with safety regulations.
