Pro DJ/Audio Gear still used in car audio.

You can tell from my other posts I'm trying to get back into the car audio vibe of things. back when I was in H.S. '93, the HOT ticket, was using HLCD, and modified DJ/Pro Studio equipment such as RANE EQ's, and X-overs. Is this still popular? Or have car audio evolved so much its not needed anymore.
I'm always looking to do something different and nutty.

Last Question I swear.

nobody has the need to use that equipment now. Especially with class D amps and built in eq's and crossover on the new headunits eliminates the need for a lot of oldschool equipment. You can have a really decent sounding system with minimal components.
