To use or not the separate sub woofer ctrl

I'm in the process of install a new stereo system and wondered if the guys in the know would recommend on installing and using the dash mounted sub woofer gain/volume control for a pols enclosed sub, or would you let the new head unit control the gain and volume and crossover?

Thanks!

Ease of use. If the head unit is as easy to adjust as the subwoofer volume, then don't bother.

It also depends on what sort of music you listen to. I listen to a variety of stuff and some stuff needs a lot less bass gain than others. Because of that, I am constantly adjusting bass gain.
