So does such a thing exist yet? I mean a head unit that recognizes not only audio CDs, but CD-Rs/RWs and of course DVD-Rs/RWs as well? I don't need the video capability most people get the car DVD player for, just the data capacity upgrade for more music on a single disc. Something that could handle a rewriteable (DVD+RW/DVD-RW) would be ideal.

Thanks

The Clarion unit seems pretty clear it only plays MP3s off CDs, not DVDs... the Pioneer unit is less clear in its description but still states "MP3 CD-Rom Playback" which makes me think it doesn't do it either.

The user is asking for something that plays MP3s off a DVD-R... ie 4.7 gigs of MP3s on one disc.

I'd be interested in such a player too, but I haven't seen one yet.

Yeah, the description lists both "MP3 Playback" and "compatible with DVD-R/RW" as features, but doesn't explicitly state that MP3 playback on DVD media is supported. Suppose I'll need to contact Pioneer directly to get the answer. I'll post what I find out.

Thanks guys.

I didn't realize that there was a difference. I have that deck I listed above, but I don't have access to a dvd burner. It would be interesting to know though, let me know if I can be of any help. Maybe I'll ask around at work and see if anyone has a dvd burner.

According to the detailed info on the unit at Crutchfield (take that for what it's worth), you can only play MP3s on this unit if they are on CD, CD-R or CD-RW.

This morning, Pioneer customer support sent me a response to my query:

"Yes, Pioneer model DVH-P5000MP does support MP3's from DVD-R/DVD-RW."

Since this unit appears to be relatively new, I've been unable to find any online reviews for it on the various car audio websites. Next step is to call around town and see if anybody has one, then take a demo DVD-R in and check it out.

Only 2 2V preouts and no time correction

Looks like I'm stuck waiting on Alpine to get around to adding this feature...
