If I were to place my subs (3 MTX 12's) in a custom box where the spare tire is, and use hinge covers like from Scott's trunk kit, would the sound be able to travel into the passenger compartment adequately? I've been considering a set-up very similar to Supamans trunk, but I'm worried that the sound will get 'trapped' in the trunk. Supaman, if you could give some insight, that would be great. Thanks.

backseats are thick and i've never seen the install you speak of (link?) but have you considered removing the speakers in the rear deck? The holes left from the 6X9's will allow more bass to flow into the cabin unobstructed.

how much power are you running also?

I already have the rear deck ported, and have 400 watts RMS to each sub. Here is Supaman's page to give a better idea of what I'm talking about. Thanks!

so the subs are already ported through your rear deck? in that case you shouldn't have too much of a problem with getting good amount of bass into the cabin.

if you were to open up the 6x9 holes you might start running into phasing/cancellation issues because of the different lengths that the soundwaves from the port and the wave from the subs have to travel to reach your ears. Really hard to say if it would be noticable without actually trying it...

and i forgot to ask about this kit from Scott...hinges for what?

Thanks for the response. The hinge covers are part of Scott William's 'trunk kit'. They cover up the trunk hinges.
