I heard from a friend that the Alpine XM Satellite Radio Tuner (TUA-T020XM) has been discontinued & will not be brought back. Allegedly, this is due to the fact that the new Alpine decks will already have the tuner built into it. I checked and a few places are out of stock. Crutchfield says that it will be in stock on the 15th. So I guess Iím going to wait to buy my new deck?

It doesnít seem logical or possible that they would stop supporting this product so fast.

Anyone know if this is true??

I heard that XM is having trouble altogether. It is rumor that they may be going out of business. I don't know how true this is.

Relax Guys, As Of Last Week, We Were Still Installing XM Radio's On The New Saturn Ion's And SUV's We Build At The Plant! I Dont See GM Discontinuing Service As They Own Hughes and The XM Radio Subscription Service Themselves! It Would Be a PR Disaster If They Pulled The Plug Right Now!........Mike

Xm is in perfect health, my stock has gone up 140 % in the last 9 months or so. For all the nitty gritty check out xmfan.com, and check out the stock trading forum.

Their competitor, Sirus, oth, is in serious trouble. If they do go under, some other corporate entity will pick up the ball for cents on the dollar and run with it. Their stock is very dilluted, and continues to get worse. Every time they need more money, they print up more shares.

XM is up to their third generation chip set, and it is much more integrated than before. This allows manufacture's to integrate it into the head units for a fraction of previous costs, and you will see all head units lean in this direction.

Pioneer will probably follow suit, so if you have a pioneer H/U, it would behove you to get a tuner AND the cable.

GM owns 11% of XM, and they get a percentage (huge) of every subscription that is enabled on a GM radio. To my knowledge, they dont actually own the subscription service themselves, but get the royalties on the ones that they have on their radios. I may be wrong.

At any rate, XM is better imho. It sounds better than sirus, has better music, cost less, and, admittedly a few commercials. But they have geo stationary satelites, a advantage to those with stationary (home/office) recievers. SOme have reported problems with sirus in a home office, where there may be a interuption for a short period of time. I have not had sirus, so this is second hand, but that is what I have heard.

XM has well over a million subscribers, with many more every day. Sirus has far less than this.

All just my opionion of course

Let me Rephrase That Statement Because B-Bodyguy is correct! They dont actually own the subscription service but they HAD A HUGE Stake in Hughes Electronics (The Satellite's That Broadcast XM) UNTIL A WEEK AGO !
Read more here! GM Sell's Off Most Of Hughes Electronics

That Doesn't Mean Their Going Out Of Biz But I Would Expect Some Changes In The Near Future? Damn! I Was Getting a $10.00 Discount a Month From Direct TV Being a GM Employee But I Bet That's Gone Real Soon! Anyhow, We Have Had NO Notice that they have any plans to discontinue the XM Radio modules and as of the last week I Worked before Xmas, We Installed Approx 40 XM Setups a Day In The Cars and 50 In the SUV's. The 1 Thing I Have Noticed, The Connector Plugs On a GM Factory XM Module and The After-Market Modules Are The Same Setup! Haven't Installed an Aftermarket Unit But The GM Modules Are a PITA! 2 People Are Given 2 Min To Route The Entire Wire Harness From The Front Of The Car To The Rear And Hook Up and Install The XM Module In The Trunk....I Hate Those Things! ......Mike
