I blew out all three of my head unit RCA pre-outs ... Really sucks...

Anyone know of a good place to send it to get it fixed...or is it even worth it?...the head unit (Pioneer deh-p77dh) is not even 2 years old...I had one of the rca's grounded so that it would work but I would like it fixed right...

Anyone have experience with this? How much to fix $$?

Well, I am in the middle of a complete stereo upgrade, including the same head unit. So, how did the rca's blow out- while working on it, or on their own? And how exactly does playing with a ground help? I am assuming you grounded out the shield, which I guess normally "floats" since it is an audio ground?
If you dont fix it, how much do you want for the dead unit?
Ebay has them for $202! (plus shipping of 15 or so...)

Anyway, takle care and good luck...

I'd like to know how this happened too, since I installed this headunit recently.

When you install multiple rca's be sure not to let the live ends (the ones that go to the amps) touch each other while the stereo is on...

I was testing my stereo during the installation process and let the leads rattle around in my car for a while before a final installation to my amps....I think that did it...Some combination of contacting each other shorted them out...

the head unit was brand new out of the box at the time and I didnt feel like pulling it out of the dash and getting it fixed...I was so pissed!!

That is exactly what I am doing (even tonight!) I will be careful, and know that your head unit did not die in vain. It will save it's brother from the same mistake. Thanks,

Pyramid Audio called today...

All 3 RCA's had a burnt ground connection or something like that...$75 plus shipping...not too bad...

Thanks for the update. I left the plastic caps that came on the RCAs on mine and I THINK I wrapped electrical tape and/or heat shrink tubing around them as well (I sure did everything else anyway). It sounds like it would be worth it for me to go back and double check.
